Can computer and media extender share a monitor?
With a lot of help from this forum, I'm about ready to jump to DTV and DVR with SageTV.
I'm planning to use two of the HD200 media extenders to make it easy to have two TVs accessing one SageTV server/DVR. One of the "TVs" will actually be an LCD monitor, and it will be located in the same room as the computer running the actual SageTV software. It would be handy if we could use that relatively low-horsepower computer for Web browsing or other quickie tasks, but I don't want to have a second monitor in that room. I know I could use an A/B type switch, but is there a good way for the HD200 to share the monitor with the computer that wouldn't require a physical switch? Thanks! |

They do make those a/b switches which can automatically switch or switch with a remote.

I've never tried it with the HD200 (or HD100), but I would assume as long as the monitor has both VGA and DVI/HDMI, you could hook the computerto the VGA port on the monitor and the HD200 to the DVI and then use the monitor to switch between inputs. I do this in my office when I am working from home. I use the VGA port on my main monitor as a secondary display for my laptop and use the DVI port as the secondary display for my desktop and just flip back and forth if I need to.

Why not just run SageTV client on that machine? Unless maybe it doesn't have the HP to play back HD...
