Any interest for a MyMovies import tool?

I currently use SageTV on WHS. I am using MyMovies addin for WHS as an artifact from Vista Media Center. The addin, with enough donation or contribution points allows you to rip DVDs from a DVD to the Hard Drive automatically, even integrating AnyDVD. I have thought of making an import for Sage to read an exported XML file from MyMovies and create the appropriate files. I like IMDB import, but am looking for something a little more automatic. If I were to write this, would there be any interest?

I'm sure you'll fine a lot of interest for that, it's been asked for quite a few times.

Yes. There are threads in the forums asking and begging for this functionality. Write it and they will come.

That would be awesome! Bring it on and we will test it!!

I'm new to Sage and had been using My Movies to gather up all the data and cover art for use on VMC. I was bummed that Sage could not use all the data but happy it used the Cover art. I have found My Movies cover art for DVDs to be much better than IMBD's cover art in Sage. Right now, my work flow is rip DVD with My Movies and supply cover art via My Movies. Then use IMBD in Sage to get descriptive info and save description only. Thus, Sage uses the cover art from My Movies and Metadata from IMBD. Time consuming process that could be eliminated with your suggestion. Thanks.

CNCB posted this in another thread. I would love to not have to purchase the software for the solution.

MyMovies willing to code meta-data for SageMC - HELP!

I noticed in the most recent update v.1.50 of MyMovies that they now include the option to code for meta-data for several different media players like:
MyMovies Changelog version 1.50 Build 2

Added: Storage of meta-data for TViX media players
Added: Storage of meta-data for HDI Dune media players
Added: Storage of meta-data for Popcorn Hour players YAMJ plug-in
Added: Storage of meta-data for Netgear EVA8000 players
So, I posted the following in MyMovies forum:
would it be possible for the MyMovies developers to include an option to store meta-data for SageTV media players/extenders?
Then the admin at MyMovies replied:
I am not aware of a way to store meta-data for SageTV. The SageTV team is always welcomed to read the mymovies.xml meta-data that My Movies always store.

If you have knowledge of a movie data format that the SageTV already supports, we are open to create such meta-data for an upcoming version.
Now, my plea for help. I have no idea where to direct these guys. Could someone please post a reply at MyMovies that would help them understand how to do this? THANKS!

Well, I realized after posting the above post that MyMovies has an open xml file that is readily accessible, just like the DVD Profiler or similar xml file that contains metadata. So, I asked stuckless of Beta Metadata Importer if he'd consider adding support for MyMovies in his tool, and here is his encouraging reply:

I'm just new to this, but I understand that MyMovies provides excellent images especially, so this would help to be able to use those consistently with SageMC and Advanced Movie Info.

Some integrated solution would be awesome. I'm sure I could scrape up a few dollars to support such a customization. MyMovies has a "mymovies.xml" in every folder. We just need SageMC to read this and we are set.

Huh? I just poked around looking for documentation or something about this and could not find anything. Can you point me? Being able to import a MyMovies DB into Sage would be EXACTLY what I've been looking for!

Check out the release notes for BMT 2.3. I believe it was released yesterday and now supports importing of MyMovies .xml DB files.

Here's the release notes for 2.3 release that includes mymovies support. You can read the release notes and see if it's something that you want to play with or not.
