Integrating Sony CX777ES 400 disc changer

Is anyone integrating a Sony CX777ES changer in their Sage setup? I have a number of DVDs that I don't think I want to rip as I don't watch them that often but want to have access to them. As I understand it, I can have a SageTV change for the changer and just tune an extender to this channel but wanted to see if anyone was doing something like that.

I'm not aware of anyone integrating the Sony Disc Changer into their Sage lineup. I know it has been requested before, but wasn't aware this was working. Also, what do you mean by tuning to this channel? Are you going to do some kind of playback on the server and loop it into a tuner to record?

What is what I envision. I have channel 1234 mapped to the video input on my tv card with no guide associated with the channel. The changer video output is mapped to the video input on the TV card.

I want to watch movie "ABC" on my TV connected via Extender. I select movie "ABC", the changer turns on an plays movie "ABC", the extender then turns to channel 1234 and the movie is playing for me.

I don't want to record the movie, I just want to use the computer to capture the dvd player signal and convert it to a format the extender can see.

Sure you could do that. You will have a reduced image though due to the conversion from the digital format of the DVD, to the analog output of the dvd player and back into the analog input of the TV card. But yes you can do what you want to do.

First get a copy of the ASCII commands you can send to it. Install EventGhost and create a macro to produce these as outputs. Install multitunerexe from here and point it to EventGhost's network reciever using it's command line interface. (EventgGhost.exe -n 127.0.0.1:PORT PASS EventName). I used DVD4001.Play as an Event

Get that crap going first, I'm subscribed now. I have the regular changer without RS232 and the IR interface brings the suck. Yours should probably be closer to channel surfing a dish setup. Mine is like more then a minute to change disks and few discrete codes to ensure repeatability. However still I have made it functional the wife is okay with it and not loosing or damaging disks is super nice. By far most of my DVDs belong to my kids.

Also Paul you could use a HDPVR and pull in most of the 480p, really though through an MVP on my SD TV the stuff looks the same as a rip. On my plasma I can see some things in the blacks I would like to reduce but haven't played with it much. I'm happy anyway.

I wrote a Sony777ES plugin for Girder 4.0.

The source code is available on their website in the plugins section. The interface is through the serial port.

You could most likely implement a Java JNI interface to bridge Sage to the C code.

I know there is also the SourceForge control, I've used that before as well. I am using CQC so that may be the top layer and the Sage stuff may not be visable.
