java 6 update 12 beware

I have a unique setup for SageTV, but updating my Java 6 to 12 broke my Sage
TV today. Had to roll it back for SageTV to even run. Just a warning for Windows XP64 bit users.Could effect Vista64 as well.

Cheers

That's been my experience as well. I'm back to 1.6.11 for now on 32 bit XP.

I had the same problem and solved it the same way you did. It happens if you don't stop the service before you do the update.

If you do that first then everything will be ok, if not then the only known cure is a Windows rollback.

In the 6.5.x release notes, updates were made to support revision 10. From that comment, I think the Sage developers have standardized on revision 10. May not be worth it to mess around with any other revisions.

12 is running fine here. Its like what fac13 says, if you try to update with the service running sometimes bad things happen.

What's the best way to remedy this? I just realized that I messed Sage by doing the Java update with the service running. Now I can't get anything to respond. Any ideas?

Shut off the service and Sage. Uninstall java and then reinstall java. Reboot your server.

I had the same/similar problem after java updated to 6 u12. Running Sage beta 6.5.11 as a service on vista32 ultimate. Looking at Task Manager when trying to start sage, sometimes sage or the service would open long enough to show up as processes, sometimes it wouldn't. Before I realized that java might have been the culprit, I enabled logging and then the native log. Sage generated neither. Using a restore point to roll back to before java was updated did nothing. Reinstalling sage (multiple versions) didn't work. However, uninstalling java and then installing java 6 u11 seemed to fix everything.

You didn't stop the SageTV service or make sure that SageTV was exited. (not sleep to the tray) before attempting the java update. Stop SageTV, uninstall java and then install the latest java and reboot your server.

Thanks for the thread. I'm on Vista 32 and I thought stopped the service before installing. However, it stopped working. Rolling back the Java fixed the problem.
