SageTV 6.5.12 Beta Upgrade Observations - FIXED
Hi guys, I upgraded to SageTV v6.5.12 this evening and wanted to post my observations.
Some background first - I had the following setup before upgrading to v6.5.12: SageTV v6.5.9 SageMC v6.3.8a Sage Webserver v2.23 Comskip Monitor v2.7 Sage STX-HD100 Media Extender Everything was working fine with the existing setup but I wanted to test the subtitle features of v6.5.12. After installing v6.5.12 everything appeared to be working fine except when I tried to view a movie that has external subtitles (.sub & .idx files). As soon as I clicked play, the screen went blank and the extender crashed. I had to power cycle the media extender. After it was rebooted, I decided to test other videos (without subtitles) - they worked with the following problems: - I could not get the info screen to show up. When I fast forward or rewind, the video would skip forward/back but I wouldn't see the info screen. Pressing the Info button didn't bring up the screen either - when I pressed the menu button while watching a video, I used to get to the main menu with a "preview" window. After installing v6.5.12, pressing menu would put the video into the preview window, but the rest of the screen remained blank - the menu's wouldn't show up. If I stopped playback, the menu's would appear. I'm pretty new to SageTV (1 year) but I've installed several upgrades (every one since v6.3.x to v6.5.9 and never had problems). Anyway, I've reverted back to v6.5.9 and everything is back to normal. Has anyone else installed v6.5.12? How was your experience? Thanks

My A/V sync was off in Linux Placeshifter 6.5.9 so I upgraded to 6.5.12 hoping for improvement. Overall things are worse. I didn't test subtitles or get the HD100 crash, but other than that I had the same experience as you. I'm using SageMC and there is no OSD on the HD100 and I had the same problems with the preview window - I didn't try the standard STV. I'd be curious to know if the HD200 also has these problems.
And to top it off the channels on the HDHomeRun all show no signal. I should have known better especially with March Madness starting up

I had the same issues regarding SageMC, plus I tried playing a .mkv which had multiple subtitles tracks, and I couldnt get to play them, so I guess Ill just revert back to the latest stable release, (ive always like having the latest beta, but guess this time it aint a no go)

If you are using SageMC try to turn it off. I had problems as well but not with the native STV.
As I understand it the new subtitle support is only for the HD200 Rasmus

I was getting a black screen when attempting to play video in MCE, but since I was messing with the properties files all day long yesterday before the beta I decided to flatten and reinstall everything this morning. At least in the standard stv video works now however I couldn't get any subtitles to display. I didn't have time to try a multitrack file to test this morning but that will be the first thing I try this evening.

I upgraded last night and noticed the pop-ups don't appear and most of the home screen does not appear if a video is playing. I found the below in the debug log:
Sat 3/14 8:05:21.024 Error painting child:java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Color parameter outside of expected range: Blue Sat 3/14 8:05:21.466 Error painting child:java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Color parameter outside of expected range: Blue Sat 3/14 8:05:26.510 Error painting child:java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Color parameter outside of expected range: Blue Sounds like SageMC is using a color code or value that the new beta doesn't like... Thanks, Jeff |

This has been moved to the SageMC forum because of the use of SageMC (and other customizations). Remember: if using a customization, please post in the customizations forum.
Also, when you run into issues on a beta, please test with the default UI w/o any customizations active. If there are problems while using SageTV that way, please submit a bug report. - Andy

I guess I missed that when reading up about v6.5.12. Hopefully it gets added to the HD100 because it would be a nice feature to have.

Similar problems here. No OSD and also after playing a recorded show, home menu would be empty - just preview window. Had to revert back to beta 11.

I have a bit of good news. There is still occasional stuttering on the Linux placeshifter but the A/V sync looks better than in 6.5.9. I also upgraded the HDHomeRun firmware from 20080723 to 20090305a and that's working great now. I fell a little behind on the firmware.

jreichen, i'm at the same firmware on the hdhr and haven't upgraded in a while. was there anything you had to change in sage once you upgraded?

Nope, it just worked. I made sure Sage was shut down while I upgraded the HDHR's firmware, then started up Sage after the firmware upgrade was finished. I don't know if that was necessary, but it can't hurt.
