hd100 not playing certain mkv files..

on my 1 tv with the hd100, certain mkv files do not play any sound, however, when I watch them off the server, they are fine in sage.

What am I missing? What info can I get to help get the right answer?

thanks

What type of audio do these mkv files have? If the audio is DTS neither the HD100 or HD200 will decode it. It will output the bitstream to a receiver to be decoded there but it will not output the audio through stereo digital or the analog RCA jacks.

well i am hooked up by hdmi (does that matter)

Just looked at file info via web interface:
File Format: MATROSKA[H.264 1280x528@24fps, DCA@48kHz 5.1 eng]

Does this help?

DCA is DTS audio. I don't know whether it holds true for the HD200 but to get bitstreaming over HDMI on the HD100 you would have to set the audio to SPDIF rather than HDMI. For whatever reason if you set the audio to HDMI it would decode the audio to stereo PCM rather than sending the AC3 or DTS. And unless you have your HDMI cable hooked to a receiver or a TV capable of decoding DTS you will not get any audio. All HDTV's should be capable of playing AC3 audio.

I'm hooked up via HDMI too directly to my Samsung LE40M87 full hd TV...

Oh well, maybe this will finally push me over to buy a decent surround receiver. The problem is that I'm so satisfied with my analog stereo amplifier.

Or you could use eac3to to convert the DTS audio to AC3.
