Comments on my proposed WHS/SageTV config?

I have been running SageTV for about 1.5 years (2 tuners, 3 media extenders) on a dedicated PC. All works great. I have been running WHS for about 3 months in a VM on my main PC and like it, but want to get it out of the VM on my main PC over to a “real” box. So of course I want to combine the two.

I am a casual-to-moderate user of Sage TV and have been happy with the performance of the system so far: Compaq SR1130NX (a 2004 era PC) AMD Athlon(B) XP 3000+ 2.10 GHz, with 512M RAM, and two ATA IDE 300G drives.

My proposed changes are: #1. REMOVE one of the 300G IDE drives, then get a SATA card and install one 1T SATA drive. #2. Upgrade to 1G RAM (that is the max for this motherboard). Then rebuild with WHS and use the SageTV add in. I am planning on doing the 64K clusters on the 1T drive.

The AMOUNT of storage will be enough for me for both apps, and given that I was happy with the performance before, does anyone see any problem with this proposed config? I guess my two areas of concern were: #1. Performance. #2. Problems with running two drive technologies (IDE and SATA). Thanks.

Thanks for that. You might be right. I just saw a Newegg bundle: AMD Kuma 7750 Combo kit system - $287 after rebate + shipping. That might make a better box (don't need the gfx card) and still be "cheap".
