Closed Caption on now?

I upgraded Sage to the latest beta (6.5.16) and my H100 extenders to the latest firmware this morning.

Now all my Videos (not tv) have Closed Caption turned on. How do I turn it off....not sure if I mistakenly turned some option on or if the software/firmware upgrade defaulted it on.

The WAF went down, as she did not like the words at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks!!

hit the options button and turn off closed captioning.....

And while you're at it, turn on the WAF option

Well...I just tried hitting the options button and turning CC off....but it was already off (which makes sense, as I never turned it on...just upgraded hd100 and sage).

But the CC is still showing during the video...changing the options from CC to no CC makes no difference...CC is still showing during the video.

I tried some other video's, and they don't have CC showing....so basically it is like some Videos (mostly kids stuff, like dora) has CC showing.

Wondering if it is something with my DVD Shrink selections when I backed-up to my hard drive way back when...maybe I extracted with CC turned on or something...just a guess.

Weird how it did not show up until upgrading the HD100 and Sage this morning.

Anyone else have this?

In your original post you said "all videos". So you only see it on certain ones? Does it show captions in those same videos when viewing in VLC?

Sorry for the original post of "all videos". After testing it out more, it is only certain videos.

Trying in VLC is a great idea....I just tried playing one of the CC videos in VLC...and it did not show CC...so it must be something with Sage.

Also, the CC is not showing on my PC (sage server)...only the HD100's. I am confused

What is the file format of the problem videos?

You might want to submit a trouble ticket to see if the SageTV guys can help on this one.

It's probably not CC but subtitles. Your default audio track for your videos may have the subtitles. Turn off the subtitles or chose another audio track through the Options button menu.

When I saw your post, I got excited, as I actually WANT closed captioning, and thought that maybe now after the update, it would finally work on the HD-100's.

I don't know if it does or not, as I have not been able to get mine to work, but after playing around with it last night, I did discover, that if you have closed captioning turned on, on what ever source you are using, that it will show up regardless of what the settings are defined in Sage.

For example, I had closed captioning inadvertently turned "on" on my Motorola DCH-3200 box connected to my HD-PVR, and ALL the recordings that went through the box "appeared" to have CC. So it's not that Sage was controlling it, rather the source box itself was, and it was just being sent through Sage. Hopefully this makes sense, and I have a feeling, that something similiar is probably going on in your case...

I'm having the same problem as the OP. I'm running the new beta and suddenly when I play DVD movies I have subtitles appearing even though I made no changes to settings. When I go into options to switch sub titles off, it says they are off! The only way to get it to stop is to cycle sub titles on and off again. FWIW, I'm running SageMC.

Texas, I tried your on/off of subtitles...and it fixed mine as well. Looks like we have the same issue

Mine started as soon as I upgraded to the latest beta as well...and I made no config changes.

I am in the middle of converting all my DVD video_ts movies to h264 with the great MediaShrink tool...when I do that, the subtitles are gone...meaning the issue goes away. Strange.

I too use Video TS files.

I see from your sig you use SageMC, I cant' help but wonder if this is related to SageMC's interaction with the beta? When I get some time, I'm going to try using the stock interface to see if the subtitles still pop up or if the problem disappears.

It seems to me that this would make a good SageTV FAQ entry explaining the differences between CC and subtitles and how each are enabled/disabled and otherwise affected in/by SageTV and on extenders.

I agree with that. I thought we were talking about CC but clearly it was subtitles. There seems to be a bit of confusion between the two.
