Reset DirecTv Receiver via USB (Serial)

I am having an issue with my direcTv receivers where the closed captions stops working (not turned off, but ceases to work) about 1-2 times a week and it takes a box reset to get it working again. I am currently using a pattersen device to tune my Directv Receiver and I was wondering...

Does anyone know how to send a command to the DirecTv box that would tell it to reset? I can't find specifics on the net and wondered if anyone was doing this today?

Thanks in advance...

Well, I would think you could check out DirecTVControl (do a quick google search). Then, look at the command that it is sending to shut off/on command.

You could then use sage job queue to execute a directv.exe command to turn off/on the STB at like say, 1am on Mondays and Thursdays or something like that....

Maybe there is an easier way, but that is what I came up with in 30 secodns or less.

You can script the power on and off. You may have to stop services for SageTV though depending on what kind of hold it has on the COM port. Also, you can use XP's built in task scheduler as well.

If you are using the EXE tuner plugin, it does not "own" the serial port unless it's actually doing a channel change.
