Tone Down Placeshifter Dynamic Streaming
SageTV's dynamic streaming seems too aggressive. I'm always getting problems where my buffer runs out and video starts getting really choppy. I've tried upping the buffer size by setting video_buffer_size=32000000 in the Placeshifter properties file, but that doesn't actually seem to increase the buffer size that Sage uses in practice. Sage doesn't seem to want to let the buffer get bigger than ~10 seconds, unless you have it paused.
Is there some way to tell Sage to back off on the video bitrate without having to disable dynamic streaming completely? For example, presumably Sage is doing something where it tries to determine the maximum rate it could, and then sets the streaming bitrate to, e.g., 90% of that. I'd want to set it to 80% (using completely made up numbers, but you get the idea).
For now I'm just using Placeshifter with a fixed 1000 video bitrate, which works pretty well as long as I'm on a stable connection. But, I'd obviously I'd prefer to just use some modified version of the dynamic system.
On a related note, is the D1 video resolution setting messed up for everyone? I think this has come up before, but when you set it to that the interlacing is awful.
