Try setting it to a single output resolution and see if the lockups go away. This is a very common cause of lockups as you and ghostlobster are describing.

This is an interesting thread. I am in process of RMA'ing my HDPVR as it too started locking up with .20. Then last weekend I made the mistake of upgrading the driver to 1.5.6. After that the ir blaster could no longer be found and the Hauppague guys let me download PVR 22F cd files. New versions of software, same driver. Even blastconfig looked different. I am still RMA'ing it. Didn't read this thread till tonight.

Yikes, I am sticking with .18 thats been rock solid. My PVR (D1) has had to be reset twice in its entire lifetime on my setup, but its only rounding the corner on two months old.

Here is what worked for me and my HDPVR issues

I originally used the driver that Windows XP recommended. I have a Dish receiver hooked up with component and optical (5.1) I let the Dish receiver pick any output it wanted. My system worked for about a month and a half solid. One day the boy did something and it locked up. About that time the talk on the forum was that the new driver had gone from beta to release so I used that one. My HDPVR locked up at least once every 24 hours.

After a week or more of this I used the hcwclear.exe and went back to the Windows XP driver. Since that time it has beed rock solid again with DD output.

I don't know if it is the older driver OR making sure to use the hcwclear.exe.

I recommend using the clear before trying any driver...

Experiencing many lockups here as well since doing a fresh install of 6.5.19. Using the same driver version (1.5.6) as I did before which worked fine. Fixed resolution from the receiver and optical in (720p, 5.1). I didn't tweak the config file at all this time so something I did before may have avoided the lockups. My suspicion is the 4 second delay after tuning. I'll change that and see what happens.

Looks like the 4 second delay is default now. I've disabled the 'trick' setting. We'll see...

I've been running for 3 or 4 days with the magic=false setting in my properties file and have had no issues.

That's not definitive IMO (god nows there are so many things that could have gone wrong). I'll leave it this way for at least a week and then return to the true setting. Maybe that'll tell the tale.

If you want to do some experimentation, I think all of the HD PVR drivers are still available here:

Both of mine have been solid for about 3 days now. I haven't run HCWCLEAR.exe for months and have changed drivers several times. I have not changed the magic from it's default true setting. I'm feeling surprisingly confident about the current setup's reliability. In fact, I've deleted movies recorded in stereo and rescheduled them to be recorded in DD.

Unfortunately, the past week has been a bit too hectic for me to do anything whatsoever with this. Additionally, we have not been watching any live TV on the HD-PVR this week...I know, I know...I'm a lousy beta-tester!
In answer to some of the questions earlier in this thread, I've locked my STB output resolutuion to 720p. I have not covered the IR receiver for the HD-PVR, however, my WHS box is upstairs in a closet, so there's no way that any IR signal is getting to it.
I'll try setting the 'magic' parameter to false and see what happens. That to me sounds like the most likely culprit.

Has anyone else solved the locking issues with the "magic" setting turned to false? I'm having the issues described here but have had no luck so far.

Setting it to false has not solved the issue but has drastically reduced the number of lockups I was experiencing.

Setting the lock to false didn't do much for me. Increasing the JAVA heap size to 400 (hex) reduced the number of lockups by 99.9%. I still get the sound going garbled occasionally after recovery though.

I am wondering if you guys saw these issues go away as this Beta went to release status? I installed the latest release version, and I have gone from a completely stable hdpvr to one that can barely make it through a show without locking up.

I tried turning off hdpvr_magic, but that had no effect. I am thinking of going up to the latest beta driver on the hdpvr, but I am hesitant to do that. Are there any other properties or code that was changed from version 6.5.13.209 -> release version 6.6???

This thing has been a huge headache since I bought it. I hope someone comes out with a competing product.

Definite headache, I agree. That said, I haven't seen any lockups lately but for one.

Jeff, Which driver are you using on the HD-PVR now?

The latest, I think that's the 1.5.6.
