I made some progress today. Number one problem was that I have my rear speakers running over 2.4 ghz with a RocketFish system that works great. That was causing most of my problems. With it turned off I can get it to work fairly well with my DIR-655, but it still hits some places where it slows down. On the other hand it works perfectly with my DIR-628 set to 2.4 ghz as long as the rear speakers are turned off. I really need to get a 5 Ghz adapter that works. Has anybody found anything other than the DWA-160 revision B?

Linksys WUSB600N
Has anyone gotten the Linksys WUSB600N USB adapter to work with the HD200 yet?
I've been trying to get it working, but no luck so far. The extender recognizes it's MAC address, but that's about it. The broadcast SSID never shows up. I've tried manually configuring, but I get a message saying the adapter timed out. Anyone have any ideas, or is the WUSB600N just SOL?

Does anyone know if this dongle will work?
Encore’s ENUWI-N3 http://www.encore-usa.com/product_it...pgid=2&pid=426 or is it best to stick with the ENUWI-N? Thanks |

So, let's try to put it to work before then. Does anyone know of good USB tracing utilities? I was thinking about something that could eavesdrop the exchange of packets between the host and the USB device, just like what Wireshark / Ethereal do for ethernet. Of course, if anyone knows beforehand what chipset is in there, or better yet, knows of a working driver for this beast, I'd appreciate even more. Googling around I've found nothing so far -- well, that's not exactly true. I've found this thread. |

Ok, here's the deal: searching trhough /proc, we can find this device's vendor and device IDs: vendor 0x203D, device 0x1480. Googling around with this info, I've found the solution was already in my machine. The code has been merged to the production sources since kernel 2.6.24, but it wasn't enabled by default, since it's still considered experimental. All we have to do is to compile the kernel anew, enabling experimental features, and defining CONFIG_RT2X00. More details can be found at <http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/RT2X00.html>. For newbies or the faint of heart, I'd recommend you read a good kernel HOWTO for more detailed instructions. Google for "kernel HOWTO" and pick the one you like most. I particularly like tldp.org for most HOWTOs, but I confess I haven't read their kernel HOWTO since version 2.2.

Hi Brent
If you are starting a list, I've got one to add for ya. I just got the hd200 and the Encore adapter, but decided to get adventurous and try one of the belkin n1 F5D8051 's that I had laying around. I dont have any blu ray's on the WHS yet, but I was streaming DVD's, live HD tv as well as recorded HD TV without a stutter or hiccup. Here's the setup : Netgear WNR3500 wireless N gbit router (main floor) Belkin F5D8051 N1 usb adapter (2nd floor bedroom, but room is situated directly underneath 1st floor room with router) SageTV HD 200 It's only gotten 3 hours of testing (1 with the Encore and 2 with the Belkin), but everything was as smooth as silk. No visual performance difference between the two adapters. The Encore was pulling 75-80 % according to Sage meter, Belkin stayed consistent at 100%. BTW, love the geektonic stuff, really nice point of reference during my setup! Bob Quote:

i've got N working with an HD200 - with the Sage-distributed USB adapter. I tried an older DLink N adapter and couldnt get it to work - i'll add the model # here once i get home.
router is a DLink DIR-655, server is hardwired to the router, HD200 is about 30 feet away between a couple of walls. A couple laptops, Airport Express units and iPhones on the network as well. Works quite well streaming ripped Blu-ray, live HD (up to 1080i), etc. Intense file transfers from the laptops on the network will cause slight stutters every once in a while (intense = file copying laptop to laptop, 8-9 MB/s - internet download speeds (< 400 kbps) have no effect on the HD200)

VERY Disappointed with Enuwi-N when used with HD200
I ordered the Enuwi-N with my HD200 bundle (for $25 more).
I a VERY disappointed in this wireless adapter's performance with my HD200. (I love SageTV and the HD200 though, in conjunction with the HD-PVR). I almost wonder whether I got a dud, although the fact that it works at all makes me assume it isn't defective. Luckily I had another adapter with the same chipset to test with / compare to (use two of them for my wireless computer clients). The Enuwi-N barely finds my own SSID, let alone any others (none found), when the HD200 is in the room adjacent to the router (Draft 2.0 of 802.11n). My other Ralink 2870-based USB adapter sees about 8 networks with the HD200 in the same location! Unfortunately my other adapter, while it works well in the afore-mentioned room and in a room on the other side of the house on the same floor, it doesn't seem (may experiment a little more today) to work well enough in the room on the other floor (also on the opposite side of house) even though in a PC on other side of that same distant room, the other adapter does work well enough to get around 40mbps receive speed, so I don't know if it is also partially the HD200 wireless support. I have ordered another 802.11n Draft 2.0 USB adapter (same brand as the one I had decent success with same chipset as Encore again) but with 2 external 2dbi antennae (not a typo) to extended the range a bit. I also considered a highly-rated wireless Draft 802.11n extender (repeater / access point), but will first wait for the wireless adapter to arrive (tomorrow) or for my brother and I to run a CAT6 cable to the distant room (will be a fair amount of effort to get cable all the way there but will be well worth it in the long run). Seems some others have had success with the Enuwi-N (although I don't know how far the router is from the HD200 in their cases). Tips: I enabled broadcast of my SSID for HD200 use to simplifies things / or to get it to find it (hackers can easily sniff it out anyway even when you turn off broadcasting) I also turned off MAC address control (for now) since I did not want to hook Enuwi-N up to my PC and have it install drivers just to determine its MAC address - Once again MAC address control is not much security for a decent hacker to overcome anyway. WPA2 AES is ON and that is the real key to ensuring wireless security (just select 'WPA' in the HD200 wireless config. It works even though there is no option listed as 'WPA2'). - I made my WPA2 key (w/ AES encryption) uppercase (after reading some posts here) and greatly shortened it from about 28 characters due to the GUI entry on HD200 (was not using a keyboard). If anyone has any suggestions, I am willing to try anything else to get the Enuwi-N to work better (especially at a distance) with the HD200, but the fact that my other adapter works much better (althouhg not well enough for 3rd room) implies that it isn't a setup issue. Thanks. Last edited by lighterwallet; 02-15-2010 at 09:23 AM. |

What other adapter are you using?

Rosewill RNX-N1 USB adapter paired with a Belkin N1 Vision router (hardware version 2000 with secret trick to disable ntp process that would cause temporary [wireless] disconnects every 2 hours).
I just got a RNX-N2X which comes with a pair of 2 db antennae (not a typo). It worked well enough with the HD200 located all the way downstairs. Nevertheless, when my brother stopped by, we also ran CAT6 cable to that room for convenience reasons and in an effort to support 1080P as much as possible. I gave him the Enuwi-N and a few other items for his troubles. I have been using the RNX-N2X with my HD200 in the room next to the router for the past couple of weeks and the image has maybe frozen once in that time. In fact, as crazy as it sounds it almost seemed better than the LAN connection... Last edited by lighterwallet; 02-27-2010 at 09:47 AM. |

Does the D-Link 160 only work with 5Ghz routers and not 2.4Ghz routers?

Just throwing this out there.
I've got a detached in-law style back house. I've been trying for years to get reliable speedy networking out there and finally got it. 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-332-_-Product linksys wrt320n bridged together with dd-wrt and a wds bridge configed to do N over 5 ghz and I can actually now watch blu-ray movies in my back house over sage without disruption. I'm one step closer to sage nirvana.

Trendnet TEW-644UB
I bought one of these for 16 bucks and it works perfect. Stream HD all day and never a problem. Buy.com has them on sale right now for $20. http://www.buy.com/prod/trendnet-tew...209180504.html |

Newegg and amazon reviews are not exactly good though (incl. one comment about coverage being "not as good as G" for the reviewer in question), so if you can specify how far away your router and adapter are it might help us. |

yes, noticed many reviews not so good. But been working flawless for me since i set it all up which has been about 6 months or so.
I bought all new equipment for routers and was wiring for gigabit, prior to buying sage extenders, of course i later find out that they do not support gigabit, but oh well. What i am running is a trendnet TEW-639GR n router, trendnet TEG-S50G gigabit "green" switch, and of course the trendnet TEW-644UB usb dongles on the extenders. The wireless router is in my basement office. One extender is directly above in an upstairs bedroom, probably 20 ft or so straight up. The other is in a spare bedroom located downstairs but in another room, so about 20-25 feet away. I do plan on buying one more to put an lcd in my garage, which will be around 30-40ft away, will let everyone know how that does. Hope that info helps. |

Is there a comprehensive list anywhere of what wireless adapters work and what don't? I've been trying to buy the ENUWI-N but it's sold out everywhere (most places only have the ENUWI-N3 which I hear doesn't work).
I'm going for the cheapest adapter possible that works (aka... not the D-Link DWA 160).

Another way...
There is another way, that is, to use a DD-WRT based Router instead of an N adapter.
My setup uses 2 whr-hp-g300n dd-wrt based routers, external antennas, to connect 2 physically seperate (at 1200 feet apart) gigabit based networks together. Using WDS bridging it's completely transpartent to your network. Is an idea. |

Anyone have any luck with the DWA-140 adapter for wireless on the HD200 or HD300, or any other adapters not listed here?
