HD200 won't play AVI files, then locks up.

I have 3 HD200's all with the same problem that appeared in the past couple days. They were working fine before, but now when I attempt to play an AVI file its seems to lock up the HD200 and thereafter attempts to play any file type returns the message "There was a Playback Error in playback. Details: sage.PlaybackException." If I recycle the power on the HD200's then they play all files fine (TV, dvd's, music) EXCEPT AVI files. If I play one AVI file, I get the playback error and then nothing will play thereafter. Every file gives a playback error.

Sage on the server plays the files OK - no problems.

I restarted the server - no effect.

Windows Media Player on the server had a problem starting at the same time. It would not play music files. WMP gave an error message that said there was an audio problem and that I should update my drivers. I updated my audio and video drivers (I use the motherboard audio and video), but that did not help. WMP would not play video either.

I uninstalled WMP 11 and reinstalled it. That returned full functionality to WMP for all file types but not the HD200's.

Another fact (which may or may not be relevant) - over the past week I was working with Sage tech support to find out why my wireless keyboard would not work with the HD200s. It appears it is not compatible. During that time I had the "extras" turned on the HD200 and was debug logging. I have since turned that off and even rolled back the HD200 firmware in one to 20090702. The problem still exists.

Any help would be appreciated.

I encountered the "There was a Playback Error in playback. Details:sage.PlaybackException" issue on my HD200 for any video I tried to play. I first removed power from the HD200 and then I renamed the HD200 properties files (primary and backup) on the server. This was done so Sage would be forced to rebuild them when the HD200 was restarted. When I restarted the HD200 it worked fine. I am not sure what caused the problem. I tried to reproduce the problem by going back to the original HD200 properties files but the problem did not show up.

Unfortunately that did not help. The problem still exists.

I don't understand why avi files play fine from the server (in any program I choose including WMP, VLC, and Sage) but they lock up the HD 200's. Music will not even play. I have tried 5 different avi files all with the same effect.

Any other ideas?

There must be something out of standard with those avi files. Are you using the beta firmware, it contains some avi fix? If you are please contact support so we can find the problem.

Thanks

I think I know what is happening. I made the files by converting home movies.

The detailed info screen in Sage give the following format:

AVI[MJPEG 480p@29.97 fpm, PCM_S16LE/1536Kpbs@48kHz Stereo

Is this a supported format for the HD200?

MJPEG might have issues depending on the encoding settings. You will also get better compressions with other codecs like MPEG4 or H264.

OK. I will convert them to a different format. That should solve the problem.
