Adding Favorites not in the EPG
Does anyone know how to add favorties that do not yet show up in the EPG? I wanted to add "Dollhouse" for example and any future airings of "Caprica", but since they do not show up in the current EPG, I can't add them. I know this is a logistics problem, because if I add "Dollhouse" and I don't have the name perfectly correct, it won't do boo (for example, when the show does come on, it might be listed as "Doll House".)
Any ideas on this, like maybe an IR that works on filters??? |

Read the manual and look up keyword favorites.

This is not helpful. When I follow your instructions to search the manual for the term "keyword favorites" nothing helpful is found. I am using the latest version of the manual as is the OP so you must have an outdated version. But, more to the point, RTFM is not an adequate answer to a forum member trying to get help.
Searching the manual for "Favorites Manager" [page 66] or "New by Keyword" [pages 66-67] is more helpful but why not just give an honest answer. That's what this forum is for; to get help with problems/issues and make SageTV easier to use for us all. I can't count the number of times that extremely patient Sage pros have posted detailed answers to others' questions and I have found it months later and I am always very grateful to those who share their knowledge. To the OP, since the show is not found in the guide data as of yet (it will be in there usually 1 or 2 weeks before it airs - probably) you have two choices. 1. Wait till a couple of days before it's set to air (for Caprica, syfy.com says 1/22/2010) and then search by title, it will find the program and you can add it as a favorite. 2. Go into Favorites Manager (standard STV Manage Favorites) and New By Keyword. Add "Caprica" and choose Title Only in the option screen (unless you don't mind a few unrelated shows being recorded). For Dollhouse, it won't hurt to add two keyword favorites, one for each spelling; "dollhouse" and "doll house" so you don't miss an episode due to your TV provider spelling it wrong. Last season it was in as "Dollhouse" with Time Warner Cable but YMMV. Note: Even if you do step 2 you should go back to step 1 after the program first airs - makes for a cleaner Favorites menu and the Watched Status will be available (it is not for Actor, Category, and Keyword favorites [page 71]). Hope this helps.

And actually your post would be the one to be considered not helpful. I'm a firm believer in "Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime". The first place to go when you have a question regarding SageTV is the manual. If the answer isn't there or not well explained THEN you go to the forums for help. I'm here to help anyone but at the VERY least you need to put some effort into it. I'm willing to help but I'm not going to spoonfeed you. RTFM is a more-than adequate answer when typing in the two words and hitting enter I gave him takes the OP exactly to the answer he was looking for. If it's not enough help for you then hold back my paycheck for my work. Gerry

Well, didn't mean to start any hard feelings on that one! I appreciate the assistance from both of you, as I did not really get the Keyword Favorites thing without this discussion. I thought that Keyword Favorites was just going to look through the EPG for keywords in the shows' descriptions, so I didn't really keep R'ingTFM after that. Both of your responses did help, so thanks!
