Placeshifter blank screen after few minutes

Hi guys,

Yesterday , I used placeshifter away from home for the first time on my laptop. The connection speed I had was low ( 190 Kbps ) but it was due to a slow internet connection, so I could see the picture and hear the sound OK .... but only for a few minutes.

Every 5 minutes or so, while watching a video, the image was turning black and the sound was stopping and I had to restart the application to carry on watching the show (it was happening on both Live TV and recorded shows).

Can you think of something that would trigger that issue ?

Is there a way to look at a log or do I need to have access to the server ( back home in 3 days ) ?

I gave it another try tonight, and for 45 minutes it was working fine.

Then my wife ( who is at home ) started to watch TV and my screen went black !

So I was wondering if this could be a licence issue ?

I have a licence for SageTV on a PC connected to the TV at home, and one licence for Placeshifter on my laptop. With these 2 licences, I should be able to watch SageTV from home and from 1 remote place at the same time ?

Yes, you should. The transcoding for your placeshifter session requires some cpu power - could it be that your wife using Sage on the PC at the same time taxes the box too much?

Tried on 2 friends PCs and Placeshifter works fine.

So it is something on the laptop that stops it working after several minutes ...

Will let you know when/if I find the culprit

This issue is caused by a software firewall called "blackice" that is installed on my laptop.

The settings are all greyed out as it is setup on install and I am not allowed to change them ( for security reasons as it is a work laptop ) .

The way round would be to terminate the process ( tried and it worked ) but that could also potentially allow viruses/trojans/etc ... to get in so it is not a sensible option ....

I need a new laptop
