Change Screen size in SageMC

I'm having issues with my SD output on my HD Theatre. I started a thread at:

In short, this is what I asked:

I'm using my SageTV Theater HD2000 using the composite output to my SD tv. I'm noticing that the signal is being clipped a lot more than when I had my HTPC's video out tied to the same tv. I realize that this is probably a problem with the TV and how it processes the signal, but is there any way that I can define the area of the tv for the actual video display similar to how the UI can be adjusted?

I emailed tech support and they provided this solution:

1) Open studio with Ctrl+Shift+F12 on the server.
2) Go to Edit->Find and search for 'Video BG' (no quotes)
3) Right click on it and select Properties
4) Change the size/position to what you want and then save the STV

This, of course, applies to the standard STV and not SageMC. Can someone tell me how I might accomplish this with SageMC?

I recently purchased an HD200 and am displaying to a SD tv and part of the screen is being clipped by the tv. I would like to reduce the display to somewhere around 95-97% of what is being displayed now.

I wrote to SageTv support and they replied:

I am able to accomplish what I'm trying to do within the standard STV, but I am unsure how to accomplish this in SageMC as it does not have the 'Video BG' element. Is there any way I can merge that section with my SageMC xml file or does SageMC piggyback on the default STV and I need to somehow point SageMC to my modified SageTV3.xml?

This seems like strange advice. What exactly is being clipped on your TV? Is it the SageTV UI (the menus and other stuff that Sage draws on the screen)? Or, is it the video itself?

If it is the UI, you should be able to adjust the overscan settings from the Sage Detailed Setups. If it is the video, you should be able to adjust the aspect ratio. The method for adjusting the aspect ratio on the HD200 is a little different than if you are running Sage on a PC.

I'm not sure why you would want to mess with Studio for something like this, unless I am not understanding what you are trying to do...

It is the video itself. It's most obvious when text is on the screen (like on my daughter's educational shows) and a whole large font letter will not be shown.

I tried messing around with the aspect ratios and couldn't get it to work. That's the reason I emailed support.

I've got the workaround, but I just need to figure out how to get it into SageMC. I really don't want to use the stock STV.

I was curious so i went hunting... I believe this is what you want (didn't test so can't 100% verify)..

Instructions are the same as what Sage Support suggested... theoretically you can use your same settings as the default...

once in studio navigate to
MC MediaPlayer OSD -> Is ShowVideo -> True -> Video

Modify 'Video' to your liking

my understanding from the OP's post is that the problem is with the video, not the UI. The overscan settings effect only the UI so they wont help when displaying video, hence the advise to modify the Video background panel itself.

If it is strictly a video issue there might be settings in his video driver to correct the issue also.

Actually, it looks like two threads got merged. Mine was the first reply to the second thread. The OP in the second thread was less clear. Andy must have merged the threads after I replied. But you are right, the OP in this thread makes it clear that the UI is not the problem.
