Preventing unwanted channel change

In a multi-tuner setup, how can you keep Placeshifter users from changing the channel on a tuner that someone else is watching locally? Can you dedicate a tuner specifically for Placeshifter?

You get more tuners or educate everyone to create favorites and only watch whats been recorded.

Optionally I would love an STV that completely removed the abillty to watch live TV. This would also inherently solve your issue.

Pehaps, but a bit like "throwing the baby out with the bathwater."

I'd like to see a way to lock a tuner to prevent a channel from being changed. Accidents happen. You could leave a tuner unlocked for "surfing."

When all tuners are in use (regardless of the location of the client) the user is prompted saying all tuners are in use and asked if they wish to override a current recording. You just have to train your users to not override recordings.

I can live with that. I just wish there was a better way to avoid mistakes (or abuse.)

Well what is the big upside to live TV? With recorded you can skip/FF through commercials. Other then storm warnings I never ever watch live TV but having an STV without the ability to watch live TV would keep my daughters from tieing up tuners and going to sleep.

We're going off topic, but I'll give you a short answer: Sports.

You obviously don't like live TV, but many people want to watch some shows or events live.
