Question A little help getting an enhanced IMDB GVid trailer search for sageMC

As some of you might know, the latest IMDB import for the standard STV has a pretty cool feature to pull movie trailers via google search when doing IMDB lookups. Although, sageMC has IMDB stuff integrated. It doesnt have this useful feature yet. So...

With the assistance of "Koelec" from our forum, I was able to get a semi-working xml import for sageMC which adds a "Trailers" menu item under the IMDB menu for sageMC. I've made some enhancements to it to use youtube as the search mechanism with the focus of HD movie trailers. Currently, it can get the same thumbnail search results as if I were to type it manually under Online Videos/YouTube/Search (when using the latest standard STV and respective Online Videos updates).

However, the problem with this import is when I play any of the thumbnail videos from the search results, I get the error:

“Unable to determine the video file to download.”

I dont have this issue when clicking on to play any of the same videos found (when using Online Videos/YouTube/Search) and manually typing in the search string.

Both search methods (when using the same search string) provide the same thumbnailed videos. It's just that I cant play the ones from my search query.

Could someone please be kind enough to look at the attached import (its relatively simple/small) and trying it on a clean sageMC? I am using the latest full release of sageMC (non beta) and the latest possible standard STV update.

Who knows, maybe this might work on someone else's setup. In that case, I would need help to know why I'm getting the above mentioned error.

Thanks!
Michael

Edit: I think I know the problem, it's not anything I'm doing wrong. SageMC's ability to play you tubevideos is broken. I think thats why SageMC avoids playing this media by just pointing to the standard STV. However, this is just pure speculation. Maybe someone much smarter than me might have a way to actually get this to work.

Anyone want to see a "Movie Trailer" button on your "Program/Video Info" Screens?

I've always thought it would be cool to playback the trailer of any movie I see on my sageTV guide to see if I want to watch it or not. I think I might be able to make such an addon for sageMC (or something similar) based on some existing code and hopefully a little help from others who know studio better than me.

I actually got the idea from the latest IMDB search addon for the standard STV. Currently, people with the standard STV can use this the IMDB addon, to do a "GVID trailer search" when already in the IMDB options screen.

With the help from Koelec (from this forum), I now have a semi-working sageMC based IMDB trailer search (using Google Videos to search for video trailers)

I decided to try to improve the addon by switching to YouTube since sageTV supports 720p YouTube videos through it's Online Video section. Currently, everything works fine except for when I actually try to playback any youtube videos (HD or not) from the list of thumbnailed search results... giving the error:

“Unable to determine the video file to download”

The weird thing is I can do the same search query via the OnlineVideos/YouTube/Search menu when I manually type it it and all the videos will play just fine in high quality. If I had to guess, it looks like sageTV updated their standard STV to support playback of youtube/google videos. However, when trying to play these files directly with SageMC, it wont work. It looks like this used to work. If my guess is right, I am hoping someone more experienced than me can take a look at the attached sageMC import and see if there's a way to get sageMC to playback the you tube videos that show up in the search.

I asked for help in a studio forum thread; however, I thought maybe somenoe might see this post sooner and offer help. I would love to be able to release my very first sageMC addon, but I can't do it if sageMC can't playback the files. If that's the case, maybe Maui Mike would be motivated to fix youtube playback instead of depending on the standard STV to play them back. As for the google video playback, some files will play and some files wont play giving the below errors (mentioned in the below thread). At the time I started the below thread, it failed to distinguish the difference between playing back the files from a sageMC google video query verses the standard STV's Online videos Google search query (which is what Maui Mike probably presumed I was doing.

Anyway, if anyone wants see what happens when you try to playback youtube videos via sageMC, you can download the IMDB Movie trailer addon from the studio forum thread link. I hope its just something that I'm doing wrong and an easy fix... then maybe I could release this addon with Koelec's permission (or better yet, have Maui Mike integrate this feature into sageMC... afterall, its the only missing IMDB feature offered on the standard STV that's not offered on sageMC.

MauiMike? Anyone? ....want to help me to make my first sageTV sageMC addon?

Thanks,
Mike

I can't help you, but I just wanted to bump this as I would love trailers in SageMC. I looked at Studio last week when I bought SageTV and its Greek to me .

Thumbs up Success!!

Koelec and I just got this working very nicely. I have to say, me and my wife both enjoy the fact that we can finally play the movie trailer preview before choosing to record, watch, rent a movie. I'm glad I took the extra time to get it to work; especially with YouTube (you'll know why when you see the HD quality/resolution and selection of the trailers). This will actually be my first contribution to the sageTV community. It works great on my HD-200 in the living room... I hope to release it soon...

I think the attached import above is broken, I can't seem to get it to show up on any movies on the IMDB search page. I'm running Sage 6.6.2.218, SageMC 6.3.9b Pre-19. I also currently have loaded the latest BMI (which works fine for me for my automated fanart), the Playon addon, webserver (neilm's, and the other one), and a couple other random things, but don't think they have any bearing on the prolbem (never know tho, whats why I mention it).

Imdb search on movies (either in my library, or in the guide), shows the correct info for the show, just don't get a Trailers menu item.

I have a surprise for all of you. I've been trying very hard not to spill the beans. But, this little project has evolved into something much nicer than originally planned. The import is completely redone from the ground up. I can't wait to share this. Of course, I couldnt do this without Koelec's help. I'l post something here as soon as it's ready. Best part of all, it looks like something we would end up in a future sageMC update. Its not the most fancy thing in the world, but I certainly find myself using it more than any other addon.
