I'm having a hard time getting the channel maps right on my hdhr tuners. Since the switchover to cable, Comcast has been putting the proper maps in the program stream because their DTA's need it, so all the data necessary to keep the maps updated and correct is there. It can be read with the program scte65scan
http://scte65scan.sourceforge.net/. Running it gives a bunch of interesting output:
Code:
./scte65scan -H 10146a1a,0 -p -V 3170 us-Cable-Standard-center-frequencies-QAM256 >mychannels.txt
mychannels.txt now has three sections, which I've excerpted here:

It looks like everything is here to keep the hdhr QAM maps updated. However, there are a few questions:
- If I get a correct map out of this program, is there a way to get it into sage, other than manually?
- How do the 3-part channels (75-5-1), which sage shows me after after a scan correspond to the 2-part channels that I see in the result of scte65scan? For instance the scan tells me that KTVU, channel 2, is on 86.1. Sage thinks it's on 86-202-1. KVIE2, and HD channel, is on Sage as 30-6-2. This map show me that it's "sort of" on channel 30.5. I say "sort of" because the PSIP map shows that it's on "261012500hz program 5", and channel 30 is 261000000hz.
- Some of the station names are slightly different that Zap2it's. The map shows channel 104 is "Comcast Hometown", zap2it calls it LOOR104. Some of the channels on the map aren't in zap2it (173 63.7454 KTSF-KBS - and WTF is 63.7454 anyway?). I guess one could work from the numbers, or come up with a table of text correspondence, but some of the logical numbers are different too. KPIXDT is in the map as channel 5.1, on physical channel 75.1. Zap2it shows it on channel 705, and sage thinks its physical channel is 75-5-1. Oh, yes, I'm confused.
- Is there an easier way to keep the QAM maps updated automatically? Sage isn't doing well for me.
Has anybody played with this? It seems like something that Sage might want to take on, because if it can be made to work automatically the whole QAM channel mapping problem goes away and it becomes automatic.
