HD-PVR and Windows 7

I'm trying to move my SageTV machine from XP to Windows 7. I'm dual booting for now, so I can keep using the XP partition until I get everything working in Windows 7.

So far I have Windows 7 installed, with Sage TV, HDHomerun, and USBUIRT.

I first installed only the HD-PVR drivers (using the latest drivers 1.5.6.1 dated 11-24-2009 on the Hauppauge web site). Windows and SageTV recognize the HD-PVR, but SageTV will not play. SageTV will not play video from the HDHomerun either (although the HDHR setup program is able to preview channels in Windows Media Player).

I thought I needed to install Hauppauge HD-PVR CDROM to get necessary Codecs, so I tried installing just the TME program and converter.

When Windows 7 rebooted, a message pops up that says TME has been blocked due to incompatibility. Well maybe so, the CDROM came with my HDPVR and is about a year old. When I use the Arcsoft Connect to check for updates, it says "You are using the latest version. Please check for updates later" .

Q1) Do I need anything from the TME program for Windows 7? I have never used their programs so far. Doesn't Windows 7 have improved codecs anyway? Can I just fully uninstall everything from Arcsoft and go with the basic HD-PVR driver from Hauppauge?

Q2) If I don't need TME, then what is the next step to debug HD-PVR + SageTV under Win7? I thought I would find a thread here, but I didn't see anything. Is HD-PVR + SageTV + Windows 7 working for anybody else around here?

I had both HD PVRs running under Win 7. To get playback on my Win 7 machine I had to install this patch:
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...ad.php?t=43579

I ran with the 1.5.6.1 drivers and didn't install TME or other codecs.

I'm back to vista for now because of issues with my OTA ATSC tuners. The HD PVRs worked fine though.

Timg11,

Prior to migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 did you happen to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to ensure complete compatibility?
To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7

Also, you can check out Microsoft's Windows 7 Compatibility Center here: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns

For anyone following this thread, the Arcsoft software is not necessary. I never used any of their applications, and it seems there are no updates for Windows 7 anyway. I uninstalled everything from Arcsoft.

As Helen noted below, I needed to install the Native Recording Patch before any video playback would function.

I still have some problems, but the HD-PVR and the HD-Homerun are now able to record.

The version of TME that came with you HD-PVR should work with Win7 if you run the update. If you purchased the full version that can playback BluRay disks then you are limited to only the 32 bit version of TME. The DVD\BluRay drive driver is not compatible with 64bit and you will have to uninstall it in order to even see the a DVD drive again.

FYI: The version that comes with the HD-PVR will play a ripped BluRay just fine on Window7 64. With AnyDVD installed you can even play it straight from the disk.

SWKerr, which update are you referring to?
I am only using the programs that came on the HD-PVR installation CDROM. I'm using the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
I tried the update function built into the Arcsoft Connect, but I got the error: "You are using the latest version. Please check for updates later"

Does Arcsoft now offer a downloadable update for the HD-PVR CDROM programs? I didn't see it on their website the last time I looked.

Is this fix still relevant in order to get the HDPVR work with a Win 7 64 bit machine?

Within the past week I upgraded my Vista 64 bit to Win 7 64 bit. The compatibility check said I need to uninstall TME, which I did. After the Win 7 installation completed, Sage worked fine for all my tuners except for the HDPVR, where I would get exception errors because it couldn't find the proper decoders. So just wonder if this is what I need to do in order to get my HDPVR working within Sage.

BTW, I reinstalled TME and am using the latest HDPVR driver. TME, by itself works, but obviously there's still decoder issues within Sage.

Thanks,

I don't have a 64 bit system, so I can't be sure it works the same. Under 32 bit Windows 7, the Native Recording Patch was required to provide HD-PVR functionality without the incompatible Arcsoft programs.

To elaborate on what timg11 said:

The purpose of the native recording patch is to allow the Microsoft codecs that come as part of Win 7 to be used by Sage, so no additional codec install is necessary.

Well that patch solved my HDPVR issue, but created a new problem. HDHR is now no longer seeing the proper encoders. I'll need to look into that now.

Fixed one issue; broke another

Okay, so as I mentioned, I followed the instructions outlined in this thread. I swapped out the filters, registered the new one, and my HDPVR plays just fine with my Win 7 64bit setup. However, now when I try to tune to a channel that uses HDHR, I get the "no signal" message. Prior to applying the new filters, HDHR worked, but HDPVR did not.

Before I start swapping out filters, anyone have an idea of which one caused HDHR to no longer provide video? Oh, and I also made the changes to Sage properties as outlined in Qian's instructions.

When I first installed windows 7 and the native recording patch, I accidentally registered the TSSplitter30 file on my memory stick, and not the one in the sage\common folder, and when I removed the memory stick, all my digital tuners did not work.

Try running the TSSplitter3.0_install,bat file from within your sage\common folder, or from the command prompt run
regsvr32 {sage install path}\common\TSSplitter3.0.ax

I finally have all my tuners working fine by replacing the newer Direct Show Capture filter (DShowCapture.dll), which is version 3.0.0.11 with the old one which is version 2.1.1.9. Not sure why the new filter has caused the original problem, but happy with the result.

Wonder if anyone else had to revert back to older version filters?
