HD-PVR IR Blaster Does Not Work When Sage Is Started As A Service In Win7

The HD-PVR Blaster works fine in WIN7 as long as I run SAGE TV as an EXECUTABLE. If I start it as a SERVICE the blaster light blinks but does not change the channel on the box (DCT2000). At the same time the Blaster config. program provided with HD-PVR does work correctly. Does anybody have this issue?

From what I've heard, you shouldn't use it anyway. Seems to make it unstable (along with the overheating and driver issues). I'd just get a USBUIRT and be done with it. I held out on getting one for a while and regreted it.

Sorry, I haven't tried it with a Windows7 machine, but many issues with the blaster are actually because it was installed incorrectly. I've worked hard at finding a installation method that not only give stable performance of the built in blaster, but also makes many people's HD-PVR work more reliably in general as well. If you have followed the installation method found in my signature and still have the problem, then I would recommend that you drop SageTV support ticket. Perhaps something has changed with the way Windows7 interacts with the driver.

Stop perpetuating the misconception. People think there are problems with the built in IR because of people like you that keep telling people there is a problem. If you had a problem with the built in blaster, I would bet that it was installed incorrectly. See my signature for more details if you want to try it yourself.

When installed correctly, there is no problem using the built in IR blaster with the HD-PVR.

Of course perhaps the new Windows7 OS has changed that, but with XP or Vista, there should not be any problems. I'm also confident that if there is a Windows7 issue, that it can be fixed eventually.

Re: Blaster

You are correct my blaster and HD-PVR have been very reliable under Vista, both as a service and an executable. The only problem is as a service under Win7. (As an exe it works fine) As a service it is always broke, not flaky.

Since it was your first post, I felt the need to direct you to the installation instructions just on the outside chance it wasn't installed correctly.

That being said, there probably is a problem using Windows7. But since it seems to be a SageTV issue (ie the blaster does work, just not under SageTV running as a service), I would file a real support ticket with SageTV. They need to be made aware of the problem and hopefully they can fix it easily.

These forums are not part of the official SageTV support. While they can provide a wealth of information and lots of troubleshooting, this sounds like an issue that needs to go directly to SageTV.

PS - Welcome

Re: Blaster

I re-installed all the software per your procedure and it did the trick.

Many thanks!

P.S Is there a way to cancel the "Ticket"
