should I change from 1080i to 720p on hd-pvr for Placeshifter playback

I was told by SageTV customer service to change my hd-pvr to 720p so that their Placeshifter software will work for me. I have been recording everything in 1080i up to this point.

Should I follow their advice and change to 720p? or should I find another solution?

I typically output to 1080p 46" LCD or 1080p 106" projector

You really don't have a choice if you want to watch HD-PVR recordings via Placeshifter. The current transcoder used by Placeshifter simply cannot process 1080i recordings.

I, too, have a 46" LCD and I don't really notice the difference between 720p and 1080i - all I know is that it all looks much better than the SD alternative. Mind you, I'm not a hardcore video guy so I'm sure others will tell you there is a huge difference between 720p and 1080i and that you shouldn't sacrifice the PQ. Bottom line, if you want to watch the recordings via Placeshifter then you simply don't have a choice (at this time).
