Hide Sage TV behind TV

I have wall mounted my TV and put my Sage TV behind it. Now I am faced with not being able to remote control the extender anymore. I only need to get the IR signal about a foot, and all the IR extenders I see are wireless and are designed for long distance and that means they are expensive ~$50. Is there anything cheaper I can do? I've looked for just IR cables and they all have a mini stereo jack that has to be plugged in to work. Thanks for any ideas!

Second that. A cheap bike helmet stick-on rearview mirror should do the trick. Or even just a bit of shiny tape in the right place.

If you're handy with a soldering iron (and don't mind voiding your warranty) you can pull the IR receiver out of the HD200 and put it on the end of a wire.

I de-soldered the IR receiver from the main board, then attached 3 wires of an old headphone cable in its place. at the other end of the headphone cable I stuck the IR receiver in a tiny black box that sits on top of my TV.

I wouldn't recommend this unless you are very handy with a soldering iron and have the right tools. Clearly it is not endorsed by SageTV.

It would be nice if they would put an IR jack on the next extender (HD300?)

Thanks for the ideas. For some reason, I thought you could get an IR cable, with an end that sticks over the IR sensor on the extender, but oh well!

There are products like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...P7FH0K95TSJH30

that would achieve what you are looking to do. The problem is that you end up with another box you have to tuck behind your TV.

Do a search for "IR Repeater". there are tons of them out there.

Well, it wouldn't be just a cable. There'd have to be some electronics to detect and amplify the signal, and a power supply to make it all go. As jgscott says, one more box to plug in and hide.

Unless you're talking about some sort of passive fiber-optic cable that just pipes the light around a corner. Such a thing might exist, although I didn't find one in a quick Google search. But really, a small mirror could do that job just as well.
