Direct TV Direct Control

I am trying really hard to choose Direct TV over Comcast in the 32034 Jacksonville, FL area. I had previous success using the Patterson serial cables without HD receivers. My concern is getting newer Direct TV receivers with HD where this is a problem. I tried to find out from Direct TV to what I would get but have to order it to find out.

Is DTV a good way to go with Direcr control or should I get Comcast and deal with the USBUirt with multiple zones?

Your decision should be drive by content, the service package vs. cost.

The DirecTV box will work with the USB-UIRT as well as anything from the cable company. I think most of the current DirecTV receivers come with a USB\serial connection that will work but you fallback it there if you need it.

Most cable packages don't seem to match the DISH\DirecTV lineup for HD. The real values of each depends on what you watch. Depending on your area you may want to consider the phone company. They offer there own services today or a discount on Satellite in most cases. Just about all of them will work with Sage and a USB-UIRT.

I've used the Pattersen device, as well as just some cables and adapters from Monoprice, without any issues at all on both the DirecTV H21 and H23 models. I swapped out my Pattersen device about 6 months ago for the Monoprice parts.

I would do some searching to see how happy people are with Comcast and an HD-PVR and base your decision on that, followed very closely by the content selection you're interested in.
