Does that mean the TCP server is also considered "out of beta"? Will you be packaging it for the plugin system?

Thanks,

Yes, but that's part of the lower priority stuff mentioned on the wiki:

Code:
Feature requests: Those things might never get implemented, but...

- Improve the Photos support.
- Include thumbnails.
- Include channel logos.
- Include a media player that can stream the videos.
- Make SageTCPServer available through the SageTV 7 plugin.
- Make the application available through The Market.
- Make the Remote control configurable.
- Password protect the SageTCPServer access.
- Provide more notifications.

Yes, that's the main thing I had in mind... Though looking at applications development in a Mac Virtual Machine is also in there...

If you don't mind, I will package the server component for you and either turn it over to you or maintain. Once you do one, they are easy to update.

Sure, I just haven't taken the time to look at it.

Got the media player installed with that link, but the stream did not work on the G1/1.6.

Yes, I gave it a quick try and it seemed to work OK with the default media player (this was on a Nexus One)

bcjenkins...

Just checking to see if you had any luck in placing the sageTCPserver in the V7 plugins?

Are you also going to add a configuration screen?

Thanks in advance...

Randy

I think that anything more than a "library" would require changing the source...

As a long time reader but never a poster, I just wanted to say thanks Fonceur for this app. I am a java developer but never worked before with Android and I was going to start until I saw this.

My question is for Mythikal. I also have a HTC EVO and I love it. I am switching from ATT to Sprint because of this phone.

I have no problems with the application displaying all my recordings, photos and videos and the control of my hd200 is cool.

My problem is with streaming. Every time I go to stream a recording, I get a message saying "Can not play video. Unable to connect to server". Anybody else encounter this problem.

When I hit the url to launch the stream, I see that vlc is launched in the task manager of my sage server. Also, the url goes to the default media player on the phone but then I get the message above.

Everything else works great except for this.

I am running taSageTV 1.09 with the TCPServer as 1.54 with SageTV 7.1.11 and am I also running WHS. Have tried various version of VLC from the newest 1.1.0 to what I have installed now which is 1.0.0 and none of them have worked. Thanks for the help.

I figured out the problem. Stupid error. I forgot to add vlc to my firewall exception list for whs.

Streaming is working on the HTC EVO.

Now, I streamed a recording from the HDPVR and I am only getting sound.

I also streamed a recording from my HDHR and I am getting both picture and sound but the picture is very pixilated.

I suspect both are just vlc settings that I will have to play with. I first just used the default setting then I copied and pasted the settings from the wiki. Both with the results from above.

Hi wit713, I hope Im not intruding since I know that your question was for Mythikal, but I just wanted you to know that I have the same issue you have on my HTC EVO. I'm glad that you mentioned Mythikal, when I took a closer look at his post (reply to my post), it looks like the problem might be that we are using the latest version of VLC transcodes to a video stream format that's not compatible with the HTC EVO's video player.

Mythikal, could you tell us how we might be able to get VLC 1.1.0 to trancode to an HTC EVO compatible format? I've waited a long time for VLC to support hardware acceleration for playback; and, really dont want to downgrade.

Thanks,
Michael

Technically they should be the same, but until someone comes up with the magic string... You should probably check/ask on the VLC forum.

I know that with BTV you can have recordings automatically converted to an iPod format (showsqueeze), is it possible to do something similar with SageTV (or a plugin) and just stream without re-encoding on the fly? Of course that would use more CPU/disc space, so might not be worth it for most.

Ok, so I have averything up and running but can't stream anything.

I am using the Droid X with android 2.1.

I can connect to server and clients and can control the client.

As far as streaming I click on the link and it starts a download and states:

<Unknown>
ip address
Cannot download. The size of the item cannot be determined.

Where did I screw up?

LOL

If you are using the rtsp streaming, that would mean the built-in video player on the Droid X doesn't support progressive streams, so you might need to wait for the Android OS 2.2 upgrade, unless you can find a media player on The Market that works...

I used the HTTP streaming. Should I try the RTSP?

EDIT: Ok I tried the RTSP and it opened the player and says "File cannot be displayed or played"

/cry

Great news!!

I got frustrated and determined to get this to work...

Im close....

I have audio!!!! No video though... Both in built in and doubletwist

I changed the VLC version to 1.0.0 (didnt see that before)

Oh, and once I start it I can't do anything but force quit the player to stop it.

And I started one recording and then another, which worked but from then on it always plays the 2nd recording no matter which I choose.

And just as and FYI: The Droid X is 854x480 resolution and the entire app looks great.

EDIT: Oh.. I dont have any of my movies or music in there either... but that can wait. lol

I have been trying to go through and try different players from the market. but after I download them and go into Sage, they do not pop up as an option to use for playing.

RockPlayer sounds promising as it is based off the OS 1.6 but runs perfectly on the Droid X.

Your thoughts?

I know Im rambling and you guys are prolly sleeping, but the kids and wife are in bed and this is the best "messing with the server" time.
