Arrow Plugin: Movie Trailers

Movie Trailers - Version 1.3 for SageTV V7

Inspired by the movie_trailer plugin for sagemc, which I co-developed with mkanet I went out to port it to the default STV. This is the result.

Stvi plugin for the default STV adds a movie trailers clips button to the Video file options dialog. It leverages the SageTV Online Services YouTube channel for serving high quality trailers and video clips.

Now you can preview a movie (watching the trailer) from the Guide before scheduling to record it. Also find movie trailer for a selected tv airing, recorded tv show, video file, DVD or Bluray.

The plugin uses the show title, adds "Movie Trailer" to the search string and filters the results to only contain genuine trailer clips.

KNOWN ISSUE:
The single first search after sagetv was restarted will always result in an empty list. Just issue the same search again.

Version History

* 1.3 - port from SageTV v6 version 1.2

Installation from the SageTV 7 setup/install plugin menu.

Had an old movie saved in my recordings and gave it a shot and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

Seriously one of the more useful plugins I've installed. Thanks so much for doing this!

I don't plan to uninstall, but I'm curious if there is a recommended way to uninstall this plugin if I were to do so. I'm doing a little writeup on GeekTonic and was going to show the ease of installing, but....

Don't you just click the uninstall button? LOL

I uninstalled EVERY plugin I had earlier and just reinstalled a bunch of them including this one. Did the uninstall button not work and I just didn't notice it?

OMG! Can't believe I missed that uninstall button!!! I was browsing from the "all plugins" page and there isn't an uninstall button so I just assumed this plugin didn't have one. But sure enough the button is there under "installed plugins"

Thanks for forcing me to look again

LOL! I thought I must be missing something about what you were asking because I'm a relative newbie when it comes to this stuff and what you were asking seemed too simple for you to be asking it. Glad I was able to help one of the experts here. Hahaha

After seeing the demo on Geektonic, I had to give it a try. It works great and the wife really likes it.

Thanks for the plugin.

Will this search for an trailer for an upcoming theatrical release (ie. not something in the EPG or already on disk)? I don't care if I have to use my remote to key the movie title...

Just installed this this afternoon

A quick question though; in my video folder, I have a folder called 'Films' and the the individual videos with file names such as 'A Movie Title (2001)' i.e. it ends with (YYYY) for the year. Does the plugin handle this format OK - it seems to find some movies/films but not others?

I haven't installed this one yet, but if it's the same as the v6 plugin, then no. But, you can do that from the YouTube section of the Online Services screen, unless I misunderstood you.

Nope... you did not misunderstand... it's kinda too bad that it can't be the "all in one" trailer plugin and search on demand, but nice job on it anyway! Works great!!

koelec hasn't been around for about 4 years, so it is likely to take someone else picking this up and running with it. I have never used the Movie Trailers plugin - does it, other than the fact that it is currently broken by the youtube changes, do everything you want, or would there be any changes in it's functionality that could be worked in while a change is being done anyways?

It does everything that i want as it is. I use it to play trailers for digital movies in my collection as well as movies in the guide. Very convenient as it is just one button and no typing to get the trailers for movies.

Looking into this is on my "to do" list.

I mentioned a few things in the Bye Bye thread, but that's probably more than anyone is willing to do.
