I think we often take these things a little too seriously - especially when it's lowered into a debate

But I can definitely agree that the extenders are a must-have for most HTPC enthusiasts. Hopefully SageTV extenders will be for sale again very, very, very soon.

Regardless of the advantages that a full PC client offer I still prefer to watch my primary TV through the extender. I find that the WAF and the hair-pull factor to be worlds beyond what a PC client offers. Keep in mind that I have two extenders and 2 clients. In order of how I want to watch I would have to rank them:
1) HD 200
2) HD 100 - the navigation is just too slow
3) Server/Playback
4) Client

It could just be me, but I don't particularly like that the client is noisy(ier) and I also have the issue with the sound doing funny things when I change the channel. Then again, I do most of my TV watching in the family room.

So with all that being said, I don;t think it's quite as simple for someone looking for another extender to simply make the decision to go with a client build instead. But I can see how that can be incredibly frustrating.

I myself have 4 HD extenders (and I still have a Hauppauge MediaMVP around the house as well if I ever bust it out again). As soon as they become available, I am buying another one. IF they release the "HD300", I'm buying 2.

Not sure if this is due to Sage7 or due to my new server (Core i3), but the navigation is now fine

i don't even need a full hd300, i'll settle for a hd201 (or hd200.5)...........all i want in hdmi1.3 so we can bitstream all the audio.........lots of good other ideas (including turning off the airport landing lights) but i'll settle for just the audio over hdmi.

in fact, i'd be surprised if anyone intentionally manufactured hdmi1.2 stuff anymore...............and why anyone would build another batch of hdmi1.2 boxes is, hopefully, a rhetorical question.

I was hoping I could use a wireless keyboard (a cool geeky small one of course) in the HD200. Maybe in the HD300

Maybe the HD300 will have a web browser and USB capable of a keyboard/mouse.

You can already use a wireless KB with the HD200.

I am pretty sure I remember seeing that Sage7 improved navigation speed. Mine seems pretty good on an Intel Atom server with my HD100s!

I'm starting to believe that delays aren't due to a new version of the hardware. They probably already have them sitting on shelf somewhere but can't sell them until they have Sage V7 ironed out and want to release them both at the same time.

I'm probably wrong but we shall soon find out... well hopefully soon.

I just checked the cold boot times of my HD200 & they are much longer than anyone else is reporting

Regular startup connecting to SageTV server
SageTV splash screen appears - 8 seconds
SageTV splash screen replaced by blank screen - 150 seconds
Loading configuration appears... - 175 seconds
Standalone media player main menu - 195 seconds

Starting up in standalone mode. Not connected to network & no USB key
SageTV splash screen appears - 8 seconds
SageTV splash screen replaced by blank screen - 195 seconds
Loading configuration appears... - 220 seconds
Standalone media player main menu - 260 seconds

Do you usually have a USB key plugged in?

I've never used the feature, but I think not all USB devices are suported. Search the forums because there were a few topics that addressed which worked and which didn't.

No but there was a suggestion in a previous post that I should try without but as I was only mentioning that when in standalone mode it had USB key (thus not using SageTV server at all).

I wonder if there have been several versions of the HD200 with different internals. I purchased mine in December 2008.

Nope. All the HD200s were the same. Have you submitted a ticket with SageTV? I'd definitely do that just in case. Those startup times are not normal

It will be a shame to see this thread die

On the bright side, the HD300 is super smooth. Can't wait to get a few more

I have a short, first-look with details on the HD300 here: http://www.geektonic.com/2010/08/nex...r-arrives.html

I'll have the full review up by end of today or tonight. Bottom line: great improvements over HD300 at lower price. What's not to like

I can think of 1 thing, Netflix.

For me the only other real advantage here is DTS Blu-ray, but I've been working around it for long enough now that it's a trivial issue.
