SageTv version 7 update not work
I tried to update from SageTv 6.6 as suggested and it did not work. I shut down the program, stopped the service, and backup the directory. Then ran the version Sagetv version 7 install. When Sagetv came up it was still version 6.6!
Tried the version 7 again and the only screen that shows has options: modify, fix or uninstall. Apparently the registry thinks I am running version 7 but the actual program is only version 6.6 Any ideas on what to do next? thanks

Once the install and upgrade was done. Start SageTV and you may need to go into the Detailed Settings-Advanced-Set Full UI Package and actually choose to use the SageTV7.xml. And you may have to go up one directory to find it. (It's in the SageTV7 directory)

There is no Sagetv7 directory. If I uninstall, how much can I save so I do not have to start from scratch with the new install. Specifically what did you do?
thanks

For starters go into my computer and look in C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\STVs and you should see a folder named SageTV7. If you don't have the folder then you have a problem and you may want to back up the directory then try uninstalling and reinstalling. If it's there then all you need to do is navigate to that folder as gplasky stated above and select the new v7 stv.

I zip the entire sage subdir under program files. You'll need to stop sage and sage service (if you're using the service) or wiz.bin (sage's database) won't back up.
When I've had problems with a beta in the past, I have wiped that entire subdir and restored from the zip and had no problems. In this case, I did not need to do that. I just uninstalled, and then repeated the install without restoring from the zip.

David, thanks for your help.
When you do the uninstall, does that wipe the Sage directory or just the program files? If it does wipe the entire directory, can I replace the wiz.bin and properties and get back to where I was before? Should I replace these files before or after I reinstall?

I'm not sure what it deletes, but it left enough that when I redo the install, all of my old settings are still there -- so the uninstall did not remove wiz.bin or the properties files (or others like my HDTV tuning files). But if you've made the backup, you can always put 'em back before doing the reinstall if you would be more comfortable!

I finally got the version 7 to install. I am writing to close out this question.
The problem with my machine was the SageTv version 6.4 was 'stuck' and could not be overwritten or deleted. Even though the deletion in the control panel said it was no longer preset the program still was there and would not let the new version install. I needed to use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 Even though this says it is for windows XP it works fine for Windows 7. It was able to remove the old SageTv program and allow the new install. Also note: when to program un installs (either with the Microsoft Cleanup Utility or the Windows 7 un install) it does not remove the critical files needed for configuration. The new install will use the old configuration and you are up and running in a few minutes.
