Exclamation Placeshifter Functionality

First a little background. I run SageTV as a service on a WHS machine. I use an HD200 or Placeshifter to access the SageTV server.

I recently decided to add a HTPC to my environment. I was using Placeshifter to set the configuration options. When I tried to set the remote control function, I could not find any menu item to let me choose which remote to use. I finally remoted into the WHS server and brought up SageTV. That is when I discovered the “Remote Control Configuration” menu item is NOT available through Placeshifter.

I was just wondering what other functionality is not available in Placeshifter?

Thanks,
John

DVD/BD playback. Hardware Accellerated playback. If you are setting up an HTPC, you DON"T want to use placeshifter. SageTVClient is the proper software for that application.

I am pretty sure that Placeshifter also doesn't work with 1080i content from the HD-PVR - at least it didn't used to.

It works if you consider a 1+ second audio lag (or being too early, don't remember which) something that you can live with. I never had much luck letting Sage choose the right bandwidth to use b/c my buffer still seems to run out too often, but with a fixed bandwdith, you can get video and audio with 1+ second lag.

Yeah Placeshifter does not get along with any interlaced content from the HDPVR, even 480i across a gigabit connection is un-playable for me. It's not the bandwidth required, it has something to do with the way Placeshifter handles the interlaced content produced by the HDPVR. I gave up and set my STB to 720P and haven't looked back.

Fuzzy is right, client is the best way to accomplish what you are after.
