HD Diagnostic Software
Can anybody recommend good (SATA) Hard Drive diagnostic software?

Depend of what's the manufacturer. If it's Seagate use seagate tool. If it's Western Digital use their tool. I'm a computer tech and I only use the manufacturer tool to find defective disk.

OK, I'll take that advice. I'm assuming it will be easy to locate the tools on the manufacturer's website?

Probably one of the best tools to have all these in one is the Ultimate Boot CD. Has all the manufacturer's utilities all on a single bootable CD.

I used the manufacturer's tool (Seagate) and all the drives tested good. I'm actually disappointed because now i have to see if my tuners are giving me the issues I'm experiencing.

SpinRite, from GRC.com. If the problem isn't in the electronics (i.e. something is wrong on the platters), this is your best shot at recovering/repairing the drive.

The Seagate diagnostics told me the drive was fine. It was an old drive and I could hear it starting to wine a little (maybe my imagination) so to be safe I replaced it with a drive from the parts pile. I used Acronis to clone the drive and it worked flawlessly on the first attempt. In about 30 minutes Sage was running off of the new drive and never missed a beat.
I use Acronis for backups but this was the first time actually had to reply on it to restore something. (I know cloning the drive is not technically a restore operation.) I think I paid $29 for Acronis and it's been worth every cent.

Troubleshooting the issue that I'm having is causing me to get inebriated. Oh wait, maybe I just figured out the problem....
