Plugin: Recipe (Text File) Viewer
This is a port of the SageMC Recipe Viewer. It allows you to specify a home directory and then browse, search, view, and print recipes (as text files). It is useful as a recipe viewer but can be used for any text files. A Recipes submenu item is added to the main menu Search item.

Excellent! I will definitely use this (for various text files).

cncb,
Is there any way to filter the files that this plugin shows down to only .txt files? I have it pointed at the folder where the YAC (caller ID program from the infopopup plugin) log file gets written. This gives me a Caller ID log that I can check through Sage. However, YAC isn't configurable, and the log file writes in the YAC folder, and there are a bunch of other files in that folder as well. It would be great if it could filter those out.

Not currently, but I should be able to add this as an option.

I forgot to fill in the release notes but I updated the plugin to filter files by type. By default it filters only txt files but this can be changed in the options (there can be multiple files types e.g. 'txt;log' or '*' does no filtering). It also handles empty directories and/or searches better.

The plugin update removed the viewer entirely for me.
I did the update, and it was no longer there. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and it's still not there. Any ideas? Is there a log file I could post or something?

It shows up under "Search" as expected for me. I'm still using 7.0.15, though, so are you using 7.0.16 (maybe there is an issue with the new beta)?

On edit: Looks like I just needed to restart Sage (perhaps you ought to add a "you must restart Sage, do you want to do so now" at the installation?). Working great, thanks!

The new plugin system automatically takes care of restarts so I'm not sure why you didn't get the prompt but I'm glad it's working now.

Hey, just curious, what would happen if you used this program to open something other than a text file? Say, an HTML file?

It will display any file as text so html will just show the source, binary files will show meaningless characters, etc.

Thanks for this amazing addon! Two quick questions:
1) How do I print a recipe? If I'm on my extender, is it smart enough to print to the default printer on my sageTV server? I know the sageMC version has a print function. 2) Where can download text based new recipes compatible with this program? Thanks!

I'm not sure about the Print capability in the new version since I am still on v.6.
As far as recipes, we often search the net for recipes based on ingredients we have on hand. Then in the web browser, we simply copy/paste the recipe into Notepad, add a few returns to make it look good, then save the .txt file to the recipe shared directory with a nice descriptive name, and voila! Okay, so where are all the text based recipe files??
Okay, I've already spent a half an hour searching for collection of recipes in txt file format. I've ever found stuff files labled E343.txt, Eser.txt, etc or files with almost a dozen separate recipes in them.
Can someone please point me to a zip file I can download with a huge collection of recipes with text files labeled correctly? I certainly dont want to have to go through each recipe and copy and paste one screen at a time. That would take years, not a few minutes. I can guarantee my wife wont download these files. However, she will cook them for me if I can provider her the repository of cleanly labeled text files. If there isn't a free, large collection of txt files with which are correctly labeled and have a gigantic variety of foods and deserts, could someone please be kid enough to zip up their txt folder and send it to me via a private message? Thanks in advance, Michael

Years ago I had a file that had about every mixed drink you could think of. This seems like a great idea for an extender in the bar. Gee... another project for me. LOL |

Try this:
FireFox addon to grab recipes from the net Then go to grassroots recipe in Mastercook format or Living Cookbook or MealMaster This addon works as the MasterCook IE webimport toolbar, but is more powerful: - It can export directly to MasterCook or to a file in different formats that then can be imported in other recipe systems. - It can export directly to Living Cookbook. - For sites that recipefox recognize it can import the entire recipe with one click (Grab It). GrabIt is really powerful. You navigate to a recipe on a supported web page, press the 'Grab It' button, then select 'Export Them', and select MasterCook. MasterCook opens and asks what cookbook to put the recipe into. Two mouse clicks. It works for other web sites by identifying the different recipe parts, like MasterCook's web import bar. You can collect recipes from several web sites at one time, before you transfer them to MasterCook. You can even use multiple tabs for multiple sites at one time, grabbing recipes from them and holding them for export to MasterCook or Living Cookbook. I haven't used to but give it a try. Gerry

By default it uses notepad to print on the server, so make sure you can print from notepad directly on the server first before you try it from an extender. If you are running Sage as a service, I think you have to check "Allow service to interact with desktop" in the service login settings before the extender can launch notepad and print (I didn't change any of the printing "code" so it should work the same as the SageMC plugin).

Thanks Gerry, but what I was hoping for was someone with a large list of text files zipped up ready for download.. I guess Im just being lazy. Surely there has to be someone here who uses this app seriously with an extensive library. I installed the firefox addon, not sure how it would work if its expecting a program that I dnt have installed. MealMaster, couldnt have access to anything until I registered. I registered, but then now i I have to wait for a moderator to manually approve my registration.
Anyone here willing to zip up all their recipes? Low fat, deserts, italian, etc... Quote:
