Who is going to replace their HD200 with a HD300?

You might want to leave the MVP on the shelf! The audio quality of the MVP is really bad compared to the HD-200.

I plan on replacing the HD-200 on one of the main TVs with a HD-300. The HD-200 will replace an MVP on a TV in the computer room. The MVP will go to a seldom used TV. I think most people on the forum probably have at least a few TVs in their household, of varying qualities and usage. The low-end extenders, like the MVPs will find their way to seldom used TVs, kids TVs, the closet, e-bay, or the hazardous waste collection site.

I am going to switch my HD200's to HD300's (even though I have 4 barely used HD200's I bought a year ago which I am just installing) because:

(in order of importance)

1. Ability to hide the HD300 and use the external IR-extender. My house is very contemporary and I prefer not to see technology while I enjoy it to the maximum. (Even my P65S2 is hidden in a cabinet when not in use).

2. DTS decoding capability. I am tired of converting files so I can hear the audio on the HD200.

3. Smaller form factor. It's just nice!

Also, the lower price makes converting less painful on the pocketbook.

Like most i have ordered an HD300 and it will replace the HD200 on my main TV in the living room (Pio 150FD) and the 200 will move to the den (Sharp D62 37"). More will come I suspect :-)

I've been waiting for the HD300 to come out so I could replace the HD200 in my living room and move the HD200 to my bedroom.

I ordered a HD-300 a couple of days ago. It will replace my one of my main TV's HD-200. The old HD-200 will go to another TV in the house.

The lights on the current one have never bothered me as is. But also I don't have an hdtv or need hd audio in my bedroom

The HD-200 lights are tolerable in the bedroom if cover them up with black electrical tape. I covered up the green light totally and the 75% of the red light.

I literally just learned about SageTV a couple of weeks ago. Never had a HTPC just DVR's.

Just installed a new HP Mediasmart server just for SageTV and I pre-ordered 4 HD300s. After they show up, it will be time to disconnect Directv, even though they will likely promise me the world to stay ;-).

Why is there mention of the possibility of Netflix on the HD300 only. What is different on the other extenders?

The other extenders use a different chipset that does not support the DRM standard needed for Netflix.

Too much good stuff on DirecTv to be able to cut the cord for us. I just use sage to stream my movies and pictures.

They are referring to using Netflix naively as opposed to using it through something like Playon.

Opus - now that the HD300s are shipping, will you be created a separate sticky similar to the HD200 below to keep track of HD300 firmware updates? Curious on your plan here... the HD200 thread below is extremely helpful.

Thanks. It's a leap of faith as it is quite an expense from scratch.

I'm a Mac household so I had to buy a pc/server just to test properly. So far so good. Only have access to sage via RDP or placeshifter. So there is some delay and reduced quality. At least i'm hoping that is what it is and that the extenders will blow me away .

Yeah, but with no V7 beta and lack of tuner support in the Mac world (not Sage's fault) plus the lack of expandability with all mac computers (other than the over priced Mac Pro) it really means that Windows/Linux is still the best way to go.

And this is coming from a Mac guy (only my Sage Server and my wife's laptop are still running Windows).....

And, yes, they will offer you the world... though, like every provider, it will be a 3- or 6-month trial of "world", and then prices will go back to normal. The best part is when you call to cancel and they ask why, and you tell them you are going to just an antenna, and the customer service rep won't believe you. I don't think that's an option in their little computer program where they are supposed to fill out a "why did the customer cancel" column. Seriously, the guy didn't understand that there are TV waves in the very air that we live in, and these can be received by antennas for FREE.

But I digress...

I'm getting one HD300 because my first HD100 - the main family room one - just died. The HD300 will go there, and I'll fix the HD100 with new caps and probably put it in the basement on the old 27" CRT. When we finally get around to making the basement a "theater", I'll probably move the HD300 down there, move the HD200 from the kid's room to the family room, and give the kid the old fixed HD100. Of course, by that point, I'm counting that Sage will have started selling the new programmable remotes separately, and I will have gotten those for the old extenders, because once I have the ability to use just one remote in the family room, I won't be able to go back.
