HD300 - optical out always hot?

With the HD100, the optical out is always hot - even when in standby.
This causes problems for my audio switch since it doesn't automatically switch off from the sage input to the TV input when I'm not using Sage.

The correct solution to my conundrum is to get a modern receiver that can just use hdmi across the board. But, quite honestly I'm more willing to spend $150 on the HD300 if it solves the problem.

So can someone look at (NOT in! you don't want an eyeful of laser) the optical output port when the unit is in standby and tell me if the laser is on or off?

Thanks,

Mitch

SPDIF optical isn't a laser, it's just a red LED...

No red light with mode set to hdmi/spdif pcm on or standby. It must only be activated when needed.

I covered it with my hand, and opened the back flap with a toothpick and didn't see a red light. This was powered on and sitting at the main menu screen and powered off (standby)

Then again, I put a disclaimer there for a reason
