Win7 client can't play tv recordings from server(s)

Hi all,

Have a win7x64 Dell M6400, and I have two sage tv servers. Recording SD video with the HD-PVR on one and R5000 HD with the other.

Cyberlink 8 Ultra installed, AC3 filter. Media player and media player classic and cyberlink play the television recordings just fine on laptop and server. Sagetv on server plays files just fine.

My laptop can't play television recordings from the servers in sage client, it returns sage.playbackexception: error-4,0x80040217 there was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback <ok>.

Tried reinstalling Sage client, tried sage decoders and cyberlink decoders, tried playing the recordings from local file system in sage client and they always fail too. Seems to be related to m2ts or ts files, mp4 and mpg2 play back pretty well locally in sage client.

Make sure you go into Detailed Settings and set the h.264 decoder to the one you want to use. Make sure the deocder you have installed actually allows you to use the h.264 decoder. Some trials do not or expire. You should actually see you h.264 decoder as a choice in that setting.

If you've got Windows 7 installed for the PC client then you'll want to use the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoders.

Thanks for the advice. I know win7 has built in decoders, but they weren't listed in the DX decoders... how can I enable these?

I know that Cyberlink hasn't expired, it plays the recorded files fine in media player, cyberlink, and mpc theater.

BTW it only occurs when I view an MPEG4 show from live or recorded. These would be mpeg2 transport streams with h.264 and AC3 audio typically.

The microsoft DTV decoders fixed all issues on my win7x64 laptop. CPU utilization seems higher then using cyberlink decoders, but since they don't work I guess I can live with it.

Excellent suggesting, so thank you!

I wish I understood what was wrong with the software that I already had, Cyberlink 8 Ultra was expensive.

It seems to have some issues playing some BD audio formats...
