VC-1 support

Now that 7.0.16 supports VC-1 playback I would like to know what codecs everyone has gotten to work. I've only gotten the WMVideo Decoder DMO to work and it is aweful. For some reason on my i3 system playback with this codec is very choppy.

Anybody else?

I'm using FFDShow and it has gotten worse!

Most of my Blu Ray ISO's just cause Sage to crash in one fashion or another.

I have one title that sometimes works, but I usually have to fight with the audio.

I'd like to know if anybody has this working yet, or if nothing else, at least what the Sage guys have working in their test labs.

Well, there still isnt a codec that uses your video card's hardware for acceleration. Atleast that I know of. So, I still don't consider VC-1 to work in Sage. It's "studdery" as hell since it's all software.

The i3 doesn't really have the oomph to decode the 1080p vc-1 stream without hardware acceleration. To do this, you will need to find or purchase a vc-1 directshow codec (usually part of a bigger package) that has proper acceleration for vc-1.

I use ATI hardware, so I can't really help you with something that works with the H55 intel graphics. But others here may have that working.

The newer powerdvd packages unfortunately do not allow their vc-1 codecs to be used by directshow filters from other programs, which is too bad because I think the older ones that do don't have proper support for the H55.

Some research on the HTPC forum on avsforum.com may be able to help.

I wish that the Sage guys raised the price of the client and server and just bundled all these hardware assisted codecs in. It would make life so much easier...

The MPC codecs use dxva with the ati video cards perfectly. I've gotten it to work on my new i3 system with the integrated graphics. It won't work in sage though because mpc codecs have to use the mpc splitter. I've never gotten smooth vc-1 playback in v7. It was perfect in v6.

I don't think that's the case. It's rather that the Sage splitter does not work with the MPC video decoder (for whatever reason). I'm pretty sure that you can e.g. use Haali + MPC decoder outside of Sage.

I should have clarified. I meant to use in sage with dxva you had to use the mpc splitter. Haali gave me issues with hd audio so I used the mpc splitter (gabest). VC-1 is working, but the decoder isn't compatible with my video chipset so playback isn't smooth or reliable. If I put my ati video card back it works, but I got this motherboard/cpu combo for the integrated graphics and hd audio bitstreaming. It works perfectly outside of sage, but as we know sage doesn't care what goes on in graphedit.

Ouch, I haven't messed with ATI video cards in almost a decade. I don't want to go back .

FFDShow has an option for DXVA assisted VC-1 and its a free codec.

It works great outside of Sage (I think i'm noticing a common theme here).

I am using an a ATI card.

Yes it does, but when I try to use the ffdshow dvxa video decoder within Sage (for vc-1) I get very strange stuttering effects.
