HD300 hung during f/w upgrade

My HD300 stayed stuck at the "don't reboot me now" screen when I attempted to do a firmware upgrade. After an hour or so, I telnet'ed in. There was nothing running according to ps, aside from the very basics (kernel threads, telnetd, watchdog). I closed my eyes, crossed my fingers, and rebooted. It seemed to come back with the latest stable firmware (rather than the previous beta). The second upgrade attempt succeeded.

FWIW, from looking at ps during the successful upgrade, the firmware update command for the hd300 *seems* to be: bash /sbin/updateflash /tmp/firmware.bin

From looking at that script, it will exit if it fails to unmount the /app or /rw paritions. I suspect that it failed to unmount something & exited, since /rw was still mounted when I telnet'ed in. It seems like rather than exit'ing and making people nervous to reboot with that big "you'll brick me if you reboot me now!" message on screen, it should throw up a "fw upgrade failed, it is safe to reboot" message. Or at least just reboot the box.

Thanks a bunch for posting. I had the very same problem this evening and your post helped me figure out the issue and get back up and running.

I've upgraded my beta firmware twice since I've had the HD300 and both times it locks up. I wished there was a way to disable the splash screeen so you can tell if it's done or hung up. Now it's just a waiting game. I give it 20 minutes them unplug it. So far it seems to work and I show that I have the new fw when I come back up.
