Multi-user watched indicator??

I've been searching around and can't find an obvious ready made solution to this so thought I'd 'blue-sky' the idea here and see if anyone has suggestions.

I've got a sage 7.x server, a couple pc clients and a 3(going on 4) HD300 clients. I'm looking for a way to indicate who has watched what. Ideally I'd be able to tell the client (or server) a 'user-filter' and have it show watched indicator and track watched items for that 'user'. I know sage doesn't do this 'user' concept, but seems like it should be possible to do some sort of watched tracking via plug-in? I imagine it could be as simple as a pop-up at the 'stop' point of watching to ask who's # to track it under... I don't think it matters if the sage official 'watched' indicator is triggered for my purposes as with so many clients and people watching different things it's not useful or actually tracking anything definable.... I just want to know what I've watched....

I'm not a programmer or I'd try to figure something out, if anyone's interested in taking on the project I'd be happy to help any way I can.

Any suggestions?

I was just searching the forums for the same type of thing. I have a couple of roommates and we watch a lot of the same shows. Typically, what happens now, videos stay on the server for a really long time as we keep thinking the other party hasn't watched them yet. It would be awesome to be able to see who watched the video.

The other option is how many times a specific video was watched would also provide a little assistance in determining if a video can be deleted.

Another option that could work as well and it might be a little easier, after an item is marked as watched, the video will automatically be deleted after XX days if not watched again. I would prefer if this could be set on a per favorite basis as my kid's shows shouldn't get deleted automatically.

Anything like this would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

User categories might help

It's not a perfect solution for your needs, but Sage v7's user categories might help somewhat. You could create a user category for each roommate/member of your household. For each favorite or manual recording, assign the user categories for the people who want to watch the show before it is deleted. When you've watched an episode, unselect your user category from that episode; if your user category is the last one to be unselected, delete the show. (Or if you're not 100% sure about deleting the show at that point, you could set up a recording view for shows that have no user category assigned, and periodically review those and delete really old ones.)

This isn't perfect, and a plug-in could make this process simpler, but I hope this suggestion helps.

That only somewhat works. I like that I'm able to specify the user category for the entire favorite, but that doesn't automatically get set for the specific show. This would be too much manual work per recording to make it worth while. Thank you for the idea as I had no idea it even existed.

Any other ideas out there?

Thanks
