Placeshifter does not login over internet

I have set up my server and installed the Placeshifter program. I cannot connect over the internet. I can connect at home on the network.

I could probably figure out the problem if I knew about the inter-working of Placeshifter.

Could someone please give me some details of how Placeshifter makes it connection over the internet?

Make sure you open port 31099 TCP on your firewall so the placeshifter client to connect to your server from the internet.

I am having the same problem. It is all the more frustrating because I have two other remote access programs which work as expected:

1. https://secure.logmein.com/ -- Remote control of the computer that houses the SageTV Server

2. http://www.revoamerica.com/ -- Remote access to security cameras through same computer.

Have you tested your Placeshifter configuration using Detailed Setup > Server > Configure Placeshifter Internet Connection > Test Placeshifter Connection? If so, what did it report?

If that test doesn't work, it's almost certainly a port forwarding or firewall issue.

If that test works, but Placeshifter doesn't, then you've probably entered your IP address or Locator ID incorrectly in the Placeshifter client.

I am told:

"The Locator Server connected to the IP Address registered for this Locator ID, but could not access the Placeshifter Server's Port."

I am using Windows Firewall. How do I check whether the Port is blocked? Perhaps doing something with this?

Negative. You'd assume the above, but it's not always the case.

I had a XP machine, connected fine to my home server via internet to a static IP ADSL.
Reinstalled with Windows 7, now it doesn't work.

My static IP is the same, my modem still have 'virtual server' or port forwarding set up correctly and I've tried over hamachi with no firewall and still have the exact same issue. It sits at "Placeshifter is connecting to the server: <IP>" then goes black after a while.

Oh and the locater method also finds the server perfect too; as the server side is fine.

Anyone, ideas?
