HD200 resolution setting for Samsung UE55C8000 - telecine judder

Hi,

As per my previous post I have upgraded to a shiny new Samsung UE55C8000, and I am very happy with this brilliant 3D TV but I experienced some problems with SageTV. Basically when watching any panning scenes the screen would judder slightly (every second or so) as though it was pausing for a fraction of a second and then it would catch up.

This was taking the gleem off an otherwise excellent TV and it was causing me some serious concerns, after a little searching it appears I have found the problem, it is probably something called "telecine judder" (please forgive me if I am not technically correct as I am not especially well versed in techno TV speak and I could be wrong), anyway information can be found here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine#2:3_pulldown

And importantly the solution can be found here:-

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...elecine+judder

So basically turn off SageTV and follows these instructions:-

Quote:
So, what I did:

Turn off HD200
Modify <hd200_mac_address>.properties file in the client subdirectory of the SageTV server install. Set the following: extender_resolution_extra_modes=1920x1080p@24|standard\=HDMI_1080p24
Restart the HD200 in standalone mode
Go to display settings, enable all display modes EXCEPT for 1080p. This effectively makes the 1080p24 mode the "best"
Set 1080i as the startup mode
Enabled native resolution switching
(last two steps probably not necessary if using in purely extender mode)
Reconnected HD200 to server in extender mode
Go to setup again
Set the default output resolution to 1080p at 23.976
Enabled native resolution switching
That's it
Restart SageTV and the judder is fixed.......

I turned off native switching as I kept having to wait for the TV to change resolution.

Hope this helps any new Samsung TV owners.

David

Hi,

As it turns out that the original cause of the judder was as a result of trying to watch 1080i video (satelite TV) in 1080p mode on the HD300.

Therefore a much easier fix is simply to switch to viewing in 1080i or allow native switching.

Thanks,

David
