HD100

So all of a sudden my HD100 remote (I tried two of them) will only work when it is about 4-6 feet away. Any farther and it won't work. I am looked and can not find any IR interference, and nothign has changed in the room. Is this a known issue with HD100s as they get older? It works, just 4-6 feet away, which is frustrating.

Any ideas?

I remember that the 1st rev HD100 had a small IR opening and there was a mod/replacement plate to make the IR opening larger. maybe that and age is having an effect?

When my remotes suddenly stop working it's usually because the batteries are getting ready to die. Have you tried a fresh set?

The hd100 remote failing is usually the first sign of the internal capacitors failing (not to worry, there is a fix). Are you getting a semi-loud buzzing sound ??

If you changed the remote batteries this is almost certainly the problem. Time to get out your soldering iron. (I just fixed my second HD100 2 weeks ago.)

Actually, I had one of my HD100 remotes go weak as well. I couldn't believe it either, but it was pretty easy to isolate the issue to the remote. New batteries did not fix it, and another HD100 remote (I have 3) would run that box normally. This remote was weak on all the boxes.

I did have the capacitor fixes installed on all of my boxes as well. The IR transmitter simply got weak for some reason and I couldn't be bothered to try to sort it out. I thought it was pretty poor, but in the end I just said to hell with it and bought a new remote from SageTV....

DEAD

Slow blinky red light and it will not turn on... she is dead. I have not opened it, but perhaps it is the capacitor issue. Given that the WAF in my house has an extremely high sensitivity to change, I ordered a new HD300.

I might try to fix the HD100... otherwise it is just sitting there... dead.

Although this might be the time to give my 9 year old daughter some soldering practice!!!

Great idea for soldering practice. The repair is very doable.

If not, I know a good home for a dead hd100.
