To all the speed freaks: I just build an AMD system with a 6 core and DDR3 1333. I then used Asus' TurboV tool to OC the BIOS. I went from 3.2GHz to 3.7Ghz and all is stable and been running fine for a month. The one question I had was the memory OC. It went from a stock 1333 9-9-9-24, to 932 6-6-6-21. After some research, it sounds like lower timings are better than MHz...I just wanted to get some opinions to make sure that is a correct setting for the memory. I ran no benchmarks before, so I'm kind of blind.

Lower timings as you stated are better as they reduce the turnaround time the RAM takes to fetch/store information, reducing the time the CPU waits for it.

As far as the timing being correct, that is impossible to tell at this point. Different timings are available for all speeds of RAM, and usually the lower timings cost more since they are guaranteed to run at these timings. RAM not spec'd for them can also do so, but not guaranteed to be 100% stable.

Run an exhaustive memory test to ensure there is no data corruption from having the timings too tight.

Thanks. Right after I posted, I remembered I hadn't redone the WEI after the OC. I did, and CPU and memory jumped from 7.5, to 7.6...so it all worked out.

Is this your Sagetv server?

Would building a powerhouse like this make navigating through menu's (with poster/cover art, ect) more responsive even through an HD extender?

No, the server was built in 2007 and is still humming along. C2D E6600 and 2 Gigs of DDR2 800. Menus are fast, you shouldn't need monster power for Sage

Yeah I have E6600 and 2 gigs DDR 800 too haha. I'm using the asus P5B-Deluxe and with the "NOS" tuning set to overclock "20%" and its running as Asus's slogan says.. Rock Solid

I was hoping to hear a super PC would make things in sage a little faster..

Do you use any software for monitoring Mobo stats (voltages/temps)?

How about bench testing? Years ago I used to use "burn baby burn" and Sandra.. Whats the good software these days?

Can't go wrong with occt or orthos. Here is a basic guide that is pretty brutal and will expose any and all instability.
