HD PVR Not Capturing Some Audio Formats W7 S7

Software Version: SageTV V7.1.5.252
Java Version: 1.6.0_24
Operating System: Windows 7 6.1

3x HD200
1x Placeshifter License (used only for testing & setup @ my desk)

The system has run great with 5x HVR-1600 for close to 2 years now. I bought 4x Hauppauge HD PVR (only 2 installed ATM) and got Cable TV from Comcast with DCX-3200 M converters. I have channel changing set up with USB-URT and that is functioning great.

My problem is with capturing audio. I have audio connected via the Toslink optical port. I have Component+SPDIF selected for tuner. There are a lot of shows that the audio is missing. I seem to get audio for less than half a second right as the channel changes. Then I get a loud blip and no audio after that. It seems to be a show by show basses not channel, and the best I can tell is that if the show only has 2 channels it works great but when it goes to 5.1 almost instantly stops post a large blip of sound.

For the time being I have connected the Left & Right audio and selected just Component for the tuner and all stations all shows are working fine. I want to get 5.1 working before I buy my HD300 for the Theater.

Is there a different driver I should be getting as well as the HD PVR?

1.5.7.0 should be fine, but you really have not given everyone much to go on to help you. A description of your playback hardware and decoders you have installed and are using would be a good start. Somebody with the same configuration might have the answer for you already.

In the absence of that...you have suggested you have a capture problem. The HDPVR should be capable of capturing any standard SPDIF format, so the next obvious question would be how did you determine this is the issue (vs a playback problem)? Try one or all of the following to try and isolate the problem:

Record a file with WinTV7. Do you get audio there?

I'd try playing back a bad file captured by SageTV in WMP...do you get sound there?

If both the above produce silence, what happens when you plug your cable box directly into SPDIF on a receiver? Still silence? If so your cable box is probably refusing to output AC3...check it's menus.

does the audio disappear if NO recordings are in progress, or only when a recording is in progress? Does it disappear if one of your other tuners starts a recording?

The audio is there when I'm on say weather channel, switch to Disney it's gone, back to weather channel audio shows up, then to HBO it's gone, while watching live TV. I didn't even know I had a problem till play back on only some of the shows that were recording. Happens on both HD PVRs with one or both installed.

I'll switch it back to SPDIF tonight to record a show and try playback on my home desktop W7 Ult, but I'm pretty sure I tested that already.

Could it be that you have something messed up with your AC3 filter settings? There is a separate utility in your sage directory for configuring this (ac3config.exe).

When I first started recording HD, I found that I got no sound with some HD recordings (mostly stuff that was broadcast in Dolby 5.1) because of this. The sound was actually in the recordings, it just wasn't being decoded properly for playback.

Don't know if this is the issue that you are having, but here is a link to a thread that resolved my audio issues.
