WOW (Cable Provider) Makes All Basic Clear QAM

Hey Guys,

I got a letter a few weeks ago about WOW (Wide Open West) my moving to all digital. Like everyone else, I was really worried about what the transition would do to my setup that works so great. I was especially worried that I would need 4 DTA converters and or maybe a Cable Card Tuner. I am in Detroit and I had seen some other WOW customers in Cleveland and Columbus that had already been converted that were having some heartburn over the situation.

So here's the good news; on the Tech Blog yesterday, they announced that everything in the Basic Tier would be clear QAM. This isn't the Basic Limited that just locals and public access either. It includes all of the networks I am most likely to watch like MTV, ESPN, FoxNews ABCFamily and about 80 other channels.

A lot of people were complaining on the last blog post about just the limited basic being on clear QAM, so they decided to open it up for the full Basic Cable lineup.

Here is the link to the post that details all of the channels that will be available.

For what it's worth, I can get Time Warrner, uVerse and WOW in my neighborhood and I like WOW a lot better than TWC and don't use uVerse because it would mess with Sage.

It sure would be nice if some of the other providers would at least do this

Cheers!

I'm in the Detroit area too. We the Wide Open West ( WOW cable ) transition hit yesterday. My analog tuners are not dead to me My HDHomerun Dual tuner picks up only 22 QAM channels and my HVR-1600 seems to pickup none.

I was wondering if anyone else in the Detroit area with WOW cable could comment about their setup and experience with the transition.

Thanks.

I'm in the downriver area and I did a scan today after updating the HDHomerun firmware. The scan indicated that it picked up 83 channels. The majority of these were music channels and were blocked out.

Regular channels picked up:
101-wxyzdt2
130-wdivdt2
200-wxyz
202-wjbk

203-wdiv (no pic or audio at this time)
204-wkbd (no pic or audio at this time)
205-wtvs
206-wmyd

399-ppvp (pay per view previews)

500 on up to 545 came in as a channel but they were blank. I use to get the music channels when WOW first came out with the digital channels but they soon blocked them from coming through unless you had their digital cable box (not the DTA they are issuing).

I'm using a HDHomerun (for digital) and 2 WOW DTAs tied into a PVR500 & PVR250 (to get the old analog stations back).

The WOW transition, for moving around stations, will not be completed until somewhere around the middle of June for our area. Currently we can receive channels on regular analog up to 51. But, WOW is moving more of the channels to digital in the coming weeks. Once they are finished I will do another scan with the HDhomerun to pick up the latest changes.

One thing that I did notice was that my kitchen TV, with a newer digital tuner, picks up more channels than the HDhomerun is providing.

If you hear of a more sensitive or discriminating tuner than the HDhomerun let me know as I think it should be picking up at least what my kitchen TV is picking up.
