I observed other changes in the new version.
When editing the title of a Movie, the Movie title is written in the EpisodeName instead of the MediaTitle.

Is this a new bug?

The title was never written to the MediaTitle field, unless you are editing the "Fanart Title". If you edit the "Title" of the movie it will put this in the EpisodeName field. (and it's been that way for a long time)

Got it. However in that case search is not easy.
I had to search EpisodeName contains Gene

Can we have something simpler?

Like if I enter *Gene* it should look up Gene in whatever the title field suppose to be?

I'm not sure I totally understand... but originally I thought about introducing
Code:
Title = '%CSI%'
ie, much like sql, but then i'd need a new keyword, instead of =, since = would be confusing, so then it would be,
Code:
Title like '%CSI%'
Of course that means that then I need to parse the quoted text for % (maybe it starts with or ends with or both), and in the end, 'contains' was just easier to implement and in my opinion more readable.

Code:
Title contains 'CSI'
Someday, when there is more than just myself writing code for this... maybe I can look into using wildcards... but for now, whatever gets done faster and/or easier is what wins out

EDIT: I think I'm really missing the point of your question. ie, Genre is not supposed to be in any of the Title fields?? it's in the Genre field.

Sorry if I confused you.
I have two documentaries "BBC The Gene Code Part 1 and 2"
So I was really looking for "Gene" in the title.

Now we have the following fields:
MediaTitle
EpisodeName
Title

I think part of my confusion is my inability to read You wrote 'Gene' and I read 'Genre'

I think I see what you are saying now, which is that because SageTV stores the title in the EpisodeName field for some items and the Title field for other items, then you may have to search both fields. (you can forget about MediaTitle unless you are specifically looking at searching for fanart titles)

This is more to do with how sagetv stores titles for different media items. The basic rule of thumb, for now, is that for TV you search Title, and for movies, you search EpisodeName.

When I get back to doing some more BMT work (which wont for for awhile) I may look at changing the search box, using a configuration option, so that people can turn off the PQL searching and it was search the way it did before, which is just a title scan using contains. The default would still be PQL, but you could turn it off.

I also was having the same problem of not having the search work for the last month. I gave very serious thought to uninstalling BMT.

Most people are used to entering just the string they want to find in the search box. Having to enter an SQL expression every time seems counter intuitive.

Any chance of changing search back to the way it used to work?

So, when I get back to doing more BMT work, I'll work on this. For now, you can consider uninstalling BMT if the PQL expressions irk you that much. Maybe in a few months when i can scrape together some time, you can try it out again. Sorry the free product doesn't live up to your expectations.
