no good way to display video content...

it seems like the the only way to browse videos in any decent way is through the folder view. mostly I have problems with the way tv series are displayed (each episode individually). I'm forced to create a series of folders, manually creating my own structure.

I'd like separate sections for movies and tv. the tv section would be set up to deal with shows and episodes within shows (like netflix and every other video site). Select a show...drill down to the episode.

Has anyone figured out a good way to set this up.

thanks.

If you are Sage V7, then a couple plugins could help you

1. TVExplorer and set to include Import. Then your videos would look like TV Recordings

2. Diamond - multiple ways to include custom views

3. BMT and Import the videos into Sage Recordings

Just be aware, that while BMT is listed an option here... you;ll probably need it for tv explorer and/or diamond as well, since without proper metadata and fanart (which is what bmt provides) then your browsing experience may be lacking.

I've looked at Diamond a little bit and I've played around with BMT.

TVExplorer sounds like the exact opposite of what I want.

I really only want the recordings section to include recent and usually temporary saved shows. I archive everything I want to save to a separate drive. Once they're on the separate drive that's when more sorting and cataloging becomes important.

Maybe Diamond does what I need and I haven't figured it out.

Thanks for the input.

you can't do exactly what you want with TVE now (switch between multiple TV views, one for current content and one for archive content) but you can get close. You can change the archive filter pretty easily in the filter menu to either show archived or non archived content. That will work until TVE v2 comes out that will support multiple different views... each with there own filter, grouping, and sorting settings.

TVExlporer actually works pretty well and gets me about halfway there.

I guess I really just want a menu that shows me all my tv (recordings or imports), which TVexplorer does.

AND, a movie menu that only shows me my movies NOT my tv shows.

I can't quite get there, though I'm considering using BMT to change the catagories for all my tv to "TV" and use the catagories veiw.

I guess thats really the same as using the folder view with a movies folder and a tv folder, but it looks a little better.

Sage MyMovies does an excellent job of displaying just the movies...

With Diamond you can create customized menus that come off of the TV or Videos Main Menu. You can rename these menu items and filter these for just what you want - only Reorded TV or movies or archived items, etc. You can also filter by genre - so you coud creata a specific menu for sports or kids shows, etc.
