urgent; HD300 hung during firmware update!!!

I was in the process of going back from the beta firmware to the released firmware. The update appears to be hung at a bad point. The screen shows:
THE FIRMWARE IS BEING UPDATED
DO NOT TURN OFF THE DEVICE
IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY REBOOT
WHEN DONE

IT has been at this point for over 30 minutes which I know is not normal. Does anyone know what my options are? I can't find any solution in the manual. What is the worst case if I disconnect power? Messages like this should not be given without a solution for a hang!

The manual describes how to do a factory reset to un-brick your device.

Also see the extender FAQ for similar info.

Thank you. The HD300 was not bricked, I just needed to kill power to regain control. However, after two more attempts fo go back to the original firmware. I was forced to use the service mode to update and firmware and worked. I am now were I wanted to be. Thanmk you for the quick response.

I have two HD300 units with the last beta firmware on them. When I tried to update to the new beta, I ran into the same problem as the OP. The solution was to "update" to the latest non-beta software first (which is actually pretty old - from back in 2010), and then update to the new beta. This was the only way I could get the new beta to load properly.

I just ran into the same issue as you. I have had no problems updating my HD300 since I've owned it and the only thing that changed recently (in the configuration) was a change from DHCP to a static IP address. After trying three times to update the firmware (twice to the latest beta and once to the 11-2010 official firmware) with the same result, I decided to try setting the IP back to DHCP. Well whaddayaknow...it WORKED! I'm not sure what your network configuration looks like, but this resolved it for me.

Not sure which version of the firmware you are currently using, but my issue appears to have been a real bug in the firmware. There is another thread http://http://forums.sagetv.com/foru...ad.php?t=55626, that discusses this random hang in the firmware and possible ways around it. AFAIK, the current firmware the current beta firmware has no known issues. I no longer have any reason to try different firmware. Originally, I was trying to track down why the wireless feature of the HD300 is useless to me. I just gave up and only used wired for now. Not sure if I will even try the wireless logic with the next beta firmware.
