Users functionality

I've set aside all day tomorrow to work with the users functionality. The first thing I noticed this evening was that when I created a user on the server it doesn't show up as a user on my extender. Does each "client" have its own set of users? Also what was the user function designed for? I'm hoping to track watched status for recordings by user.

The 'users' functionality currently is mainly configuration driven. We don't track watched status per user.

Basically many of the configuration options that are UI related are stored against a user and should be the same across all instances. I don't think any of us actually use users so don't expect too much from it

I was afraid of that. I've been using tmiranda's Multi-user plugin and my is reluctant to give it up, but now that I've used Phoenix I won't go back.

All in good time. Phoenix public beta is meant to bring these sorts of issues to light, and we'll no doubt add support as time goes on. (Or when we add plugin support, we other people can add support as well)

I created a generic API for the Multi User plugin that in theory can be applied to phoenix. I don't know what Team Phoenix has up their sleeves but I'd be willing to help integrate Multi User into Phoenix.

Tom, we'll most definately have to talk about this. User support (better user support) was on the primary Phoenix objective list, but we've never really flushed it out... that's more my fault, since I never really incorporated user support in the api. (With the exception user based configurations)

Lets add Tom to the P.I. so we can discuss this in our private office
