Can't Get Updated Metadata to Save

I'm trying to update the metadata for one of my DVD's, Iron Man 2. In BMT the metadata is completely blank. The only thing showing is the title which I believe is being derived from the folder structure.

When I go into the title and follow the "Find Meta Data" flow, the fields get populated beautifully in BMT.....until I hit "Save". As soon as I hit "Save" all of the fields are blanked out again.

Can someone direct me on how to debug the issue?

Thanks!

Does it happen for all videos, or just this one? I have seen cases where SageTV will not update the metadata on one item (for whatever reason). My solution, if it's just one file, is to remove the dvd, then tell sagetv to refresh (so that it knows it is gone) and then add it back in again, and tell sagetv to refresh (so that it picks it up) and then see if you can edit/update the metadata. Again, this is not really a bmt thing, since when this happens to me, it's only for a single item.

It is only happening for this one particular file. I tried your approach of removing the BD folder structure, refreshing sagetv imports, adding the BD folder structure back and refreshing one more time.

I then tried to update the metadata again, but no luck.

Is there some logging I can switch to debug and look at?

Unfortunately, there isn't anything that BMT will log for that, since no errors would have been generated. BMT simply calls the SageTV api for saving metadata and it never fails with an error.

You can try looking in the logs/phoenix.log to see if there are any other errors listed there. Maybe there is something else going on... weird video path, title, etc.

I've noticed this happening on and off for some time. Sometimes it is any changes to the offending file and sometimes it is only certain things that can't be changed. I've noticed now that there is the option to edit the "Raw Metadata" sometimes going that route will make the settings stick; sometimes it won't.

I'm not sure there is much the debugging log would show me. If this is a case where it happens sometimes on some files, I'm not sure I can resolve it... or even if the issue is in BMT or not.

Hmm the only thing in the log out of the ordinary for that file is (apparently too long to post in code tags) in the attached log snippit. Not sure if that helps, but that is the one that I couldn't change from an import to a recording.

As far as debugging, without looking at return values from the db commit using the api I don't know what else could be done; I'm just throwing things out and hoping something sticks. This is not a huge issue, but it it is one that I have encountered numerous times and it boggles my mind why it's something that you can't reproduce

Is CSI Miami one of the shows that you are having issues with? What's interesting here, is that for Airings (ie, non media files), Phoenix creates an Immutable Metadata object so that any writes are ignored, since you can write data to an airing.

If this is a MediaFile, then it really is odd that it's getting assigned an Immutable metadata object.

I don't usually tinker with CSI Miami; that episode just happened to be one I had a problem with recently and thought I'd add to the post because I still have the file and can slap it around for troubleshooting.

I was attempting to change it from a media file to an airing and it wouldn't let me. Is there any way I can dump the db entry for that file so you can see everything that is set for it and would that even help?

More info:
I ran into another one today

The last line of the log snippit below makes it appear that BMT is attempting to import it as a recording. I'm guessing that sage is refusing the db update? Is there any way to check a return value from the call to the sage api to diagnose what is going on?
