Is the USB HD-PVR more stable than the Colossus?

I had the Colossus but i couldn't used it as it gave me too many problems. Is the old version the USB more stable than the colossus or is the same?>

For me it is. Once I setup my computer with Win7 x64 Utimate and a NEC USB card my HD-PVRs (Component and 5.1) have been very dependable. No missed/bad recordings in months now. Colossus with HDMI and 5.1 missed/bad recordings once a week. Will NOT drop 5.1 sound will go back to HD-PVR if I have to but so far I've been able to get everything with repeats except for one series. So not changing yet.

Edit: If you can't tell I have multiple servers. Colossus is by itself on one and HD-PVRs on another.

The real answer seems to be it depends. Some users have the Colossus working without issue. They may have the resolution locked in the STB and only doing analog. Though for some unlocked and 5.1 works. Same for the HD-PVR. My HD-PVR has worked well from the beginning. I'm on an AMD system using the mb USB port. Unlocked STB and 5.1 SPDIF audio. No issues from all the channels I record. (All the HD channels.)I use the HDHomerun for all OTA local HD. I had thought about a Colossus but stuck with my HD-PVR .

What about versions of SageTV. I assume Colossus only works with Sage 7.x - is that true? I am still on Sage 6.x - is the HD-PVR the only option with that version?

Sage 7 is a requirement to use the Colossus. That's when support was first put in it. If you want to use a Colossus you must upgrade Sage.

Thanks - I have been looking at the forums and I now realize that is indeed possible - wow, quite a nice gesture by STV/Google.

I just took a look at the Hauppauge webpage - is the Collossus supported on Windows Vista 64-bit?

thanks,
Bart
