just look at this community like an aging sports team whose management has decided won't draft, trade or sign any new players...
or trainers, doctors, front-office staff....save for a cleaning crew that will sweep up until all the furniture has been sold in less than a year.
and then, we will play our last game
and that will be it
kinda like the Charlestown Chiefs

It is a sensible idea but I am losing faith on it. You would think that if they were going to do something that they would likely have done it months ago, like when they changed the policy for upgrades for V7.

I've given up on Saoogle providing any solution/relief LOOONG ago.

I have some alternatives when my extenders die and run out of replacements if there isn't a better solution by then.

Out of curiosity... does anyone have a rough idea of how many HD200 & HD300's have actually died? I don't see many post's about hardware failure which makes me hopeful they will last for a few years yet.

I thought one of my HD300's was dying, but it ended up being the TV that was dying!

I had the same issue. I thought the HDMI port stopped working on my HD200 so I sent it back to Sage and it turned out it was the TV (luckily the component still worked).

I have a feeling the HD200s/HD300s will last. I wouldn't be surprised if the power bricks start to die but that is to be expected and are replaceable.

what if...

so if one of your remotes for a media extender dies, out of warranty, 'cause the buttons or membrane wore out, do you think what's left of Sagetv support would send you replacement parts?

No, just get a universal remote. Sage extenders are already in the logitech database, and the cheapest harmony remote will more than work, for pretty cheap.

An alternative to the universal remote, if you own an Android phone/tablet or iDevice is to get the free app T*SageTVRemote from The Market or Apple app Store, respectively...

Remotes are a bad example.

I did. I love my clients. I also might have to use my server as a viewing location. That won't happen for a while though.

i only have problems with my client build (Shuttle xs35gtv2 ion2 4MB Ram/ 64 GB SSD) - stutter - even with codec with CUDA support, client connect takes forever, spinning wheel everywhere, my hd-300 on the same network-switch just plays the files..
i LOVE extenders...

If the connect takes forever it sounds like a network configuration issue on the PC. Which would also cause the stutter.

ya thought so - but network is working - i get full speed (GBit) when copying files (tested some 100 GBytes)- also tested client on diferrent switches - also tested n-wlan, same story..

Check to see if the connection is half duplex or full duplex. Also check the network throttling setting.

Quote:
Two registry settings that seem to prevent or alleviate the throttling are:

(DWORD value) HKLM\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters\DisableBandwidthThrottling (create if it doesn't exist and set to 1 to disable and then reboot)

or

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\NetworkThrottlingIndex (set to a value between 1 and 100 and reboot)
Also
Quote:
Also another possibility is to disable the MMCSS (Multimedia Class Scheduler) service - from wikipedia: "This service has been implicated in poor networking performance while multimedia is playing", or "Windows throttles the network interfaces while audio is playing in order to maintain audio quality and prevent network interrupts interrupting media playback. By default, this limits the network receive speed to 10% of its maximum - 100Mbps on gigabit ethernet, and 10Mbps on fast ethernet"

The service is is a dependancy in the windows audio service (the dependancy needs to be removed so windows audio can still run) so in regedit,
go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Audiosrv, find DependOnService and remove MMCSS and restart.
Finally, in the services control panel, services.msc, disable “Multimedia Class Scheduler service” and restart.
Gerry

Also realize that the Ion would be considered bare minimum for ANY htpc build. I'm really glad i went i3 instead of ion. It's not like it was really THAT much more expensive, but has a LOT more performance than the atom/ion combination. (You can get a mini-itx case, motherboard, and i3-2100 for pretty much the same price, or within $20, of that shuttle system).

yeah fuzzy - you're absolute right - this was also a consideration - the only reason for going the shuttle ion route was the reason, that it is fanless, and i could'nt find a fanless i3 solution here in Europe...
